Angry PO's May they Rot ...

Well time for my weekly update on the repair of my shark.

Yesterday worked on the shark all day.

1. Changed the gear oil in the pinion, whatever the PO had in there definitly was not thick enough to be gear oil and there was only about a quart in there.

2. Now on to fix the Fuel Pump Sending Unit. removed rear carpet, took off cover to the sump where the unit can be accessed from only to find about 2 lbs of dog Kibble all around the cap to the top of the fuel tank ok got the vacuum and cleaned this area up took the sending unit out disassembled it cleaned it up and put it back in and it now works fine.

3. Adjusted the modulator pressure on the AT. seemed to help keeping the car from downshifting on the highway.

4. Had tires balanced found a wheel on the fron that looks like it took a pothole with too little air in it, am getting a new rim for this one but moved it to the back untill I can get it.

5. Installed my new Blaupunkt San Hose' CD/MP3 player completes my center pod.

coming up next week...

repair of inner door skins, driver side window switch, driver side window window channel repair.

cheers

"Z" I bought a "handyman special" house and I'll admit I cursed it for awhile. But at the same time, I knew I would not have had a house for that money had they taken care of it. Unless he got to AA, I'm sure he will create another deal for someone else. Your car looks great, how much did you pay for it? By the way, am I seeing your spoiler is missing? The lower lip looks clean, did you do anything special to that lower area?

Cool

Zandramus:
For what its worth, when my auto trans was shifting down on the highway, I found the transmission fluid level to be too low, and found a leaky oil line to the cooler. Topped it up and it shifted perfectly. '86.5 transmission. Maybe yours is different, but thought I'd pass it on.

Dog kibble?? Better than that wet food in a can.

This reminds me of the time I stored my 67 Firebired outdoors under a tarp for 3 years (no $ for insurance--those were the days). Anyway, when I went to fire the old girl up and looked around under the hood, I noted squirrels had been hanging out. Little did I realize, however, that they were able to crawl inside the big old GM air cleaner housing (picture a big round pizza box with 4 inches of room from top to bottom and a snorkel about 8 inches long) and were storing nuts in there and on top of the carbeurator. Anyway, despite what the folks at K&N might say about airflow, when that airflow is accompanied by acorns it does NOT improve the performance of any car.

FYI - if you've had critters in your ride: Mine was stored and had lots of acorns under the spider when I got her, but worse was the nesting material in the HVAC - before i figured it out I nearly set the car on fire, as the resistor block was igniting clumps of the junk whenever some broke loose and shorted across the contacts, enough to fill the interior with smoke. Nest material is pretty flammable stuff. A real adrenaline rush at high speed. Good luck

They like to nest and store food in the air box too. HIGHLY recommend looking there before starting after sitting awhile........

These stories are funny, but mine was dangerous!

When I pulled off the rear bumper cover, I discovered - in a hopping up and down, brushing myself off, cursing manner - several black widows and their nests. Mind you, the car was on the road, not in storage. That still gives me the wivvies.

Funny, I thought 928's only had spiders under the hood...

In KY we just have to worry about the Rednecks, not Black Widow Spiders.

Glad to see its not just the winter storage people that have to deal with "critters". I'd rather deal with a few mice than Black Widows though.
Now, my contribution. I was dropping a trans on an XJ6 I had and sure enough, there was a dead mouse (I didn't know it was dead at that time) in a standing position about 4" from my face. It scared the $h!t out of me and I slammed my head into the frame rail is I pulled away . I had a good laugh after though.

Last year my wife set out a freshly-washed bowl of organic grapes for my kid; as he was rooting around and munching away, a Black Widow crawls out of the grapes. Nobody got bitten, but the spider was swept into a ziploc bag and thrown in the freezer so daddy could verify the species later. It was a Black Widow all right.

Then it got smooshed when daddy got home.

We only buy grapes that have been sprayed with dreadfully toxic pesticides now...

If you've had mice in there, have a good look at the wiring. They seem to like to sharpen their teeth on it... my tractor wasn't running well because of a 2" gap in a plug wire.
