Question Dastek Units.....

Hey-

Anyone have a piggy back computer (Dastek) installed on their 928?

If so, how do you like it?

Any feedback would be great!

Thumbs up

I am also curious. As far as I know, it requires extensive dyno tuning, but I've heard good things. Anyone?

Unhappy

Hey Jay. I've been looking into it also, and around here it's just too expensive for me. There is a shop about a two hour drive from me that sells/installs/dyno tunes the Dastek, but they want $1500.00 for the whole package. If I knew more about it, I'd just buy one direct from Louie Ott and install and tune it myself. Louie sells the boxes for around $600.00. You can find a list of authorized dealers at: www.theracersgroup.com

Louie runs one as does Tom Coultier and both have had pretty good performance increases with it. Louie's GT has posted 327 rwhp with it, and he still has cats in the exhaust(albiet high flow cats),and stock exhaust manifolds. I'd love the power increase, but alas, it's just not in this years budget. Hope the info helps.

Hey Chris-

Yeah, I looked into Louie as an option...$600 seems to be about right along with a couple of hours for tuning.

I'm thinking about it after the Cam swap and pulling the Intake for some full throttle switch maintenance (checkbook willing!).

Cool

Key piece of FYI regarding the Dastek Piggyback computer(The Program). The 85-86 928S has special installation requirements and requires two units ("NOT ONE")and this is reflected in the price (almost double). Louis ott is a great source he did mine and the Dastek rev. limiter, which can be installed simultaneously and eliminates the need to put a chip in to remove the rev limiter.

Louis' prices are very resonable and when you consider the cost of buying a chip that is-

a. not programable
b. offers little HP increase

The Dastek Piggyback computer is still a very practical option even at $1500 installed.

You really want a professional installing these devices. It does not take a whole lot of effort to "jack up " your ECU and your engine if it is improperly installed.
