Exclamation Beware the LH Jetronic

Beware the following syptoms:
Uneven idle,
Occasional hard starting,
Stalls for no reason, then hard starts.
I had these symptoms for 2 weeks or so before my 87 s4 just would not start anymore.
For whatever reason, heat, bad solder or whatever these brains just do not last.
$1000.00 bucks minimum
Thanks to Gulf Performance for helping me out. We need to come up with a cheaper rebuild program for these units.
Any thoughts??

I agree completely about a better source for the brains.

One vendor (928Intl) has 'rebuilt' units - for $695 I think. In as far as rebuilding them, I understand that it is one of the chips that finally dies. Unfortunately, this chip is manufactured by Bosch - and contain proprietary information - too bad for us.

There is also another place called Partwerks located in Chicago ( 815-462-3000 or 800-366-9147) that may be able to help some out. They offer $495 for a rebuild, with a $200 core charge and 12 month warranty.

From anecdotal information, it appears that the problem occurs with mostly 87 and 88 MY 928s. A friend with an 88 had to wait almost two months before a donor brain could be found.

As our 928s all get older, this problem will only get worse. Clearly, an alternative solution to OEM brains is needed. Seems like a golden money making opportunity for someone who knows their way around circuit boards and computer chips. YMMV.
