928 rust problems?

The reason is because water and moisture mixed with debris collects under the deck wing and stays there after washing, rain, etc. If you look closely around the edges of the deck wing you will notice there are small drain holes. After each washing or rain it is a good idea to blow some air through those drain holes to make certain they are free of debris and no water is collecting under there. The rust cancer under the wing does not start in the galvanized steel it starts with the clips and then onto the holes in the galvanized steel that the clips are attached to.
You have two types of corrosion happening under there- First is "Electrolytic"- from the salts and acids in rain water and Second is "Dissimilar metal corrosion" because the clips are not made from galvanized steel and coupled with moisture creates another type of electrolysis that starts where the clip meets the unpainted hole in the galvanized steel. The combinaion of both of these will make for a nasty cancer that is hidden and will go unoticed for years.
By the time I found these cancers on my 928 the rust had completly eaten away the clips ( so the deck wing could have literally fallen off while driving down the street) and the gully rim where the window rested was eaten away almost entirely.
Most folks never check this area on these models of 928 until it is too late and the little nickel sized rust makes its appearence around the bottom of the windows in the quarter panel or under the bottom of the deck wing. <img border="0" alt="[bigbye]" title="" src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" />

I was going to post a pic of the rust around the filler cap on my auto but I couldn't it's just too painful and I don't want to spread sick 928 **** on the web!
That stone protector strip is in the same place (height) as on my 2 cars and they have their origional finish maybe there was a diference here with the euro's.
I don't think that what you are seeing along the bottom edge is rust. There is a folded/welded panel seam that runs along the bottom edge of the car. This has steps and indentations in its shape and there are also recessed areas for the jacking points. I think that's all that is showing. I hope so anyway as it looks like a tidy car otherwise!

On a personal note - it appears to look like a nice clean job and not too overstated (we all know this could look a lot worse).
