Default ignition switch problem?

While walking to the shop I heard a snippet of a song coming from the garage. I think 'oh great I left the radio on all night'. When I open the garage I hear music coming from my locked and covered '86.5. I get my keys and uncover, open, and sure enough the radio is turning on for a few seconds, and the off all by itself. I start the car and it fires right up, turn off and all seems normal again. I am thinking maybe the 22yr old ign electrics might be going. Any one run into this before? There are no electrical drains (maybe now!) as the car can sit for over a month and it will fire right up with little cranking. If anyone has an idea please let me know, thanks, Don.

Well I'm not so sure I'd use the word "pop" to describe putting in the new switch. Not a bad job, but the reverse screwdriving angle is a bit of a pain. While you have the pod out, I suggest cleaning the contact points inside. If you need help with pod removal, I'd be happy to help.

Good luck,
Tim

why would you pull the pod? if you remove the bolt going thru the switch and loosen the other side a bit you can replace the switch without the pod coming out

I would not have been able to replace mine, which I did about 2 months ago, without pulling the pod, or at the very least, completely unscrewing it and lifting it up and out of the way. If you can do it without this effort, more power to you.
I did all the wyit stuff too, like the cleaning the instrument cluster, replacing bulbs, cleaning all switch contacts, etc. There are great write ups for these jobs, and the whole thing takes about a day or so, if you take your time and do it right (plus have lots of help from the local 928 gang )...
