Default Kudos to Constantine

My rebuilding work schedule for this coming week is a 928 5 speed, Corvette T56 6speed and a 928 Automatic, which includes an LSD, Ring and pinion and Constantine’s, Torque tube drive shaft clamp.

I am impressed with Constantine’s, Torque tube drive shaft clamp. Well made, heavy duty steel with Allen head bolts. There have been many debates, discussions as to the cause of torque tube drive shaft movement, resulting in possible crank shaft thrust bearing failure, with no conclusive evidence as to the cause, Constantine’s clamp will surely stop any movement, no doubt in my mind.. I highly recommend it, especially in higher torque modified engines.

Did we miss that you were putting a GM 6 speed transmission in the car? I'm only asking because I am confused by the post. If you are, wholly chit, please share all that you are doing.

He Steve, that resembles my clamp!!
Steve is rebuilding my auto and installing the clamp I got from Constantine a couple of years ago and was waiting to rebuild the trans to have it installed.
Besides my trans work he is also rebuilding a 5 speed in a 928.
Don't think he is working on putting a Cheby 6 speed in a 928.....

I don't think the vette-viper 6 speed will fit....Louie did some research on it and it was not easily possible...plus the gear ratios are not really worth it either with super tall 5th-6th.....

It seems the only option for high HP automatic 928's is the clamp constantine made or the retrograde to the early C-clip TT.....

"All Hail" to the Constantine clamp.
The 928 Automatic life saver.
I will open a seperate thread on the subject shortly

Qudos to Steve who helped Sean and I diagnose a problem with a B2 valve.
Thanks Steve for taking the time to talk with me.
The B2 was the fix and we have a very happy customer

Those are the transmissions I am rebuilding tomorrow, about two full days on each. No Chevy’s in a 928.

Is there any advantages of using Constantine's clamp versus the Porsche shim/C-clip method that Bill Ball has documented on Rennlist? I know this will only work with the older TT ('88-older) and is a pain to install, but $12 in parts is alot easier to swallow compared to over $300 for the new clamp. Any thoughts???

I am not bashing anyone's efforts here. I have a '88, so I have the option. I also already have the shims/C-clip, but was wondering if there was any advantages that might change my mind.

If the above setup is not done right -you don't get spacing set properly with appropriate shims - you'll have TBF in a couple hundred miles. This was apparently the reason Porsche eliminated the shim method on the S4, the factory mechanics were messing up the spacing on TT re-installs and destroying engines. Unfortunately the workaround - the factory clamp - is inadequate.
