I just got home by way of Yellow Cab. Yesterday the car gave every indication it was out of gas. I put gas in it, got it started and it ran perfectly last night and today. I make a stop for about 30min. today - come back out and the car won't run (Just like yesterday). It would start and idle at first but die if I open the throttle. Then harder and harder to start, as if no fuel pressure. I jumped the fuel pump relay, got under the car and put my ear next to the fuel pump. I could hear a barely audible whizzing sound. Seems like I remember it being a louder buzz. I also swapped out the computer with my working spare - no difference. I guess I will try a new fuel pump and fuel filter and verify the check valve is OK. Any other ideas???? <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[crying]" />

When I turn the ignition to "on", sitting in the drivers seat, I hear the pump buzzing. It comes up to pressure and then stops. If you don't hear the pump it prolly is not good. try turning the ignition to "on" and let it sit for 30 seconds before you turn it to start. If you have a weak or dying pump, you should get ignition but she will stall when you exhaust the pressure in the fuel rail........
I dunno, thats all I can think of given your description.......

Thanks, Gretch- Like yours, I believe my fuel pump used to be audible from the drivers seat. But not now. It is not completely silent, however. I have read posts where the failing fuel pump got louder. How about quieter?

Update - Now I don't think it is a fuel problem. Replacing the fuel pump and fuel filter was not a waste of time, however. A lot of crud came out of the filter and I could make the pump cut out by jiggling the wires. But what I noticed today is that the injectors are firing without the engine running. Bad computer? I put in my spare brain - no difference. Swapped out the EZK module - no difference. But it would run at 1100 rpm, so if I matched the throttle with the speed the injectors were firing, I could keep it running and was able to limp 8 mis. home at about 8-10mph on the back roads (with fuel pump relay jumped). At least my car is safe at home now and I can get down to some serious diagnostics.
