Default Any luck with the Infinity Basslink Sub for our 928's?

I recently sold all the stuff I had bought for a sub to fit in the spare tire well for a number of reasons. I am reducing the cost and comlexity of my setup but still would like a sub and recenty came across some of the infinity Basslink subs on Ebay for around $130 shipped. I have seen some pictures of other owners that had these in the truck area but never thought to ask about how they sound. Because of many reasons I would like to just get something simple and cheap but still get some good bass from the car audio. I think this with a new luggage cargo cover could fit the bill quite nicely.

Curious if any basslink owners can care to comment for me to give me a better idea.

I was also looking at the Kenwood and bazooka equivelent but the Kenwood only puts out like 30 RMS watts which sims pitiful compared to the 200 for the infinity and the bazooka tube looks like a piece of junk compared to the bazooka i remember my dad having in one of his trucks many years ago. Although i do like the simple tube style of the bazooka of old, the newer ones look very cheap to me.

Thanks

I was looking at this exact sub at Best Buy 2 days ago wondering the same thing. You beat me to the punch on asking the forum about it. This thing looks pretty inexpensive and appears that it would fit very well.

Is this the one you are looking at?

I haven't taken any measurements, but from looking at it, the bottom brackets could be removed, or used to mount it to the side of the "well" and some padding on the bottom.

I recently installed one in the spare tire well, purchased off ebay for around $100.

Sounds GREAT with all types of music. This thing really rounds out my system. If you find one for a good price, I say go for it.

The only con is that it does not fit as clean as I would like.

Would it be possible for you to shoot some photos and show us what you did? i've been mulling this over for a couple of days.

i'd buy another in a heart beat.
we added one to the wife's navigator. sounds good and clean.
it's not gonna slam but it added a nice realism to the audio video system in the family cruiser.

well worth the 150 we paid for it.. easy as all hell to install also...

I bought one as a quick way to add bass to the stock speakers. I had it mounted on the back of the drivers side rear seat which I always kept in the folded down position anyway. I have a 5 year old Alpine head unit which has sub control built in. Easy way to add really clean bass. I did it right before a long trip so I wanted a quick and easy install. My plan was/is to upgrade the 928's speakers in the future at which point I'll put that sub in my truck and get a new one to put in the spare wheel area. That was the plan 3 years ago when I got it and I really haven't gotten around to it since it sounds pretty good as is - I keep putting it off.

I've had one in my Euro for 6 months------

now it's out. not permanently, mind you, just out for the paint resto job.

yes, it sounded great and I had no problems with it.

yea, me too. What were we talking about?

Any way, have you run across the Blaupunct unit? I forget where I saw it (maybe Amazon or Crutchfield?) but it looked similiar to the Infinity, but a little smaller.

I just won an auction for one and by the slimmest of margins $0.03! I would be pissed if i lost by that amount.

AMP AND SUB PROBLEM SOLVED!

I figured you were bidding on that one. Glad I didn't step in. Let me know what your impressions are when you get it installed. I love the sound quality that Ang has in her '90 and would like to duplicate that w/o taking up the entire rear area.

I was going to make a box to go in the spare tire well (i already made a template) but i never got around to buying a table saw to cut it and didn't want to deal with upholstering it and doing all that crap. I found what i thought would be a great amp sony XM1S which is the smallest thing ive ever seen and rated at 290 RMS and a nice infinity 10" sub. This would have cost $300+ not to mention all the time to fool around with it. To buy a 10" 200 RMS watt sub that will actually fit in the spare tire well (although slightly taller) for $130 shipped, this was an easy decision.

Bonus, she gets a fire extinguisher too!

It's so funny that this sub system just came up. Infinity has actually been making this series of subs since at least 1998 and I will go on record saying that this is an excellent solution for those looking for a self-powered sub-woofer for their 928 that just happens to fit very well where the spare wheel fits.

Well I got the sub today and my first impression is that i cant believe i got this for just over $100!

The quality of it is exceptional. Its maybe 2" taller then i would like being that it does stick out a bit, but with carpet covering it and with a luggage cover in place you wont ever see it which is really what i am going for.

I am wiring it in now so wont have much to say about how it sounds until sometime tomorrow, but my first impression is that this is a really nice unit and I think it will serve my needs perfectly.
