Question Road trip emergency repair kit????

OK guys, thanks to all the great info I found here on rennlist I will be getting my shark in a couple of weeks. I've narrowed the choices down to 2 and unless a better deal comes up before Sept 13th, I'll be flying out to get my Porsche.

Either car I go with, it'll be an 800-1000 mile roadtrip back to Atlanta. So, I was wondering if there was a list of parts/stuff/tools I should have in case of a roadside breakdown. Most common relays to fail, parts that break, etc.

I've already read up on the fuel pump relay "get you home" device, but both cars have a new fuel pump relay installed.

Anything else I should consider?

Buy a well maintained car and secure you have money left in your pocket, then you will enjoy your trip back home in your 'new' Porsche.
PS: very difficult (almost impossible) to foresee parts for emergency - And one thing more, as a new 928 owner you cannot repair yourselves 'in the middle of nowhere'

If you haven't signed up yet, sign up for the 928 assistance list. I personally never travel in my 928 without the following:

1. cotton towels
2. detail spray
3. tire foam
4. glass cleaner
5. leather conditioner
6. simple green wipes
7. and a fire extinguisher

I'm dead serious about that stuff. I love a clean car. The first thing I do after a road trip is wipe the bugs off. Then depending on the overall condition, I do a quick once over with tire foam and glass cleaner. If I have time later, I'll go over the engine bay with the simple green wipes. The fire extinguiser is just in case.

Now if I we're traveling for a long distance, I would first make sure the spare is in good condition and that you have the jack. But then I would bring the esentials, 4 quarts of oil (928's hold 8 you'd need at least 4 if you lost all your oil to get you to the next gas station), a rubber plug, some wire, set of fuses, jug of premixed coolant, a few big hose clamps, a piece of rubber (like a bicycle innertube, duct tape, electrical tape, set of metric tools, flashlight, fire extinguisher, some cotton towels, a cell phone, and a AAA card. Am I missing anything?

I think that's a pretty good list. All of it should be available quite innexpensively (>$150)from a local Wal-mart. And I think you could fit it inside a milk crate. Hope this helps.
