I've signed in and posted a speed trap on US-52 SB, Stokes County (Pilot Mountain) NC.

If the SHP LEOs initials were RL, he is an acquaintance of ours, and a really great guy. He is also a hay farmer and he has attended some of our PCA events we have sponsored. He'll drop by in uniform, in his patrol car, and it's interesting to see the reactions of the P-cars owners.

Last time it happened, I was berated by an attendee for setting them up! "You invite us here and we are drinking and you invite this A%^&*() to come by!"

Several of us had a good laugh. "He stops by every year and believe me, US-52 will be clear all the way south. He'll be working elsewhere this afternoon".

P.S. We've never met him on the roadside in his official capacity, but then again, we don't speed on the public roads, we take it to the track.

Nice site- *bookmarked

Also check out: http://www.speedtrap.org/
I like the graphic search interface of the njection site better, but the speedtrap site has some good content and seemed to have more data for my area, which I have found accurate and helpful.

From what was said on the news, the HP actually morally support this site as they say if anything, it will slow people down...denied the revenue part of it of course...

Of course, slowing EVERYONE down is not necessarily conducive to safety improvement. Impeding flow is definitely NOT safer, and that is why the autobahns are safer than our freeways, even given no speed limits. More aggravation, impeded flow and poor flow management, uncomforable proximity to other vehicles without relief for long stretches at a time, improper lane discipline, uncomfortably and unrealistically low speeds preventing drivers from operating at their optimum level are all the result of "slowing people down" attitudes. Don't worry. The revenue flows anyway when increased accidents occur and angry motorists engage in road rage and missed appointments and drivers fail to maintain their vehicles in good condition because they feel it is not of prime importance and then those vehicles fail and cause collisions. The money flows one way or the other in this unrealistic and oppressive state of traffic mis-management. Has anyone ever guaged how tiring it is to continually fear apprehension by some authority for absolutely normal behavior? Continually monitoring your own behavior lest you risk detection for an activity that is proven more effective and safer. Very tiring and absurd. You should not be looking over your shoulder unless it is to monitor other driver's positions and patterns to make your own most effective. How much does that continual state of concern detract from performance and stamina and thus affect safety? In the absence of the awareness of enforcement, drivers always increase their speed, according to sound traffic engineering findings. In that case, what is wrong with this picture of pervasive fear on the highways of the US? It is unsafe I assert. And the HP knows this, or should. (I'm out of here, 'cause I need to work tonight so I won't argue this case. Maybe another time.)

I've actually seen some nasty posts by cops on speedtrap.org, so they don't all endorse these sites...

In the UK we can download a database of about 30,000 camera/speedtrap locations so it can be loaded on to SatNavs as POIs. The database is updated monthly and costs $4 per download. The records look like this, showing position, type and speedlimit:
;Longitude Latitude Name
-1.40385 54.54525 MOBILE:2960@70
-3.71974 51.52464 MOBILE:5607@70
-1.57859 55.02818 MOBILE:5608@30

However in some european countries it is apparently illeagal to have camera locations recorded, and the penatly for having the records in your vehicle is very high.

It is certainly ironic that some concerned citizens of a certain European nation once broke free of that nation because of such idiocy and nonsensical oppression. And now it is becoming pervasive in the backyard of those same concerned citizens. What shall we do about all of this crap??
