Post 928 Tech books/pubs on CD (long)

As some of you already know, I've been on a "mission" to find and convert as many of the technical manuals and books on the 928 as I can to pdf files on CD (the shop manual is a seperate project and not covered here). These are things like the annual "Service Information" books that were sent to Porsche technicians each model year, the "tech/spec" books, as well as training manuals on various sub-systems of the cars. These manuals are almost all NLA from Porsche and are becoming very difficult to find. I've got version 1.2 done now and it's contents are listed below (44 publications). If you'd like to borrow the CD's, please send me an email off-list to jim928@ptd.net.

I'd like to thank our "Big 3" vendors for their help in locating a lot of this material and particularly Mark Andersen of 928 Int'l. Also Wally P., "Max",Joe Thrift,Alan Taylor, Jerry O and Renault Evans and I've probably forgotten someone as well (age 55 and CRS).

I had most of these done at Fichenet and the quality of the pictures and text is good. There are a very few pics and wiring diagrams that are dark or hard to read.

A REQUEST:
I've listed publications I know exist and don't have done below. If you can help me obtain these or know of others that I haven't listed, I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know.

NEEDED:
1980 Service Information
Electronic Ignition and Fuel Injection wks200-020
EZK/LH..1991 wks107-121
A22 Transmission 456-820/921
Welding Galvanized Sheet Metal 4563.21
Technical Bulletins prior to Nov. 1984, Book A PNA-000-056
Airbag Information 493-621
Emission Testing and Tune-up 68-88
Oxygen Sensor and Catalytic Converter wks108-021
Electric 928 Design Function Wiring 4567.20
others?

ON THE V1.2, 2 CD's (about 800MB and >2100 pages) by category:

-Annual Service Information Technik books: all years except 1980 and 1995
These generally provide supplemental info to what's in the shop manual covering
sub-systems in a little more depth and/or w more pictures. Focus is on changes
from previous year's models so, for example, 1987 is pretty lengthy at 134 pgs while
1984 is only 29 pages. In addition, 1987 and 1985 had supplemental "maintenance and
adjustments" books which are included. A lot of good data.

-TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS/DIMENSIONS/TOLERANCES (the small "Tech/spec" books")
928 1978-1980
928 1981-82, 928S 1980-1984
928S 1985,1986 928S4 1987-1989
928S4,GT,GTS 1990-1993

-FUEL/IGNITION
Air Flow Controlled FI Service Information 459-521 20pgs
928S 1985 Test Plan EZF/LH 454-921 32pgs
928S4 1987 Test Plan EZK/LH 493-921 53pgs
Diagnosing DME LH/EZK w 9268 Tester 494-521 33pgs

-CLIMATE CONTROL
HVAC Information Technik 455-020 64 pgs pub 1985
Climate Control System M563 w42 600 4080 32pgs pub 1980

-TRANSMISSION
928S A28 Auto Trans Descript of Operation 490-521 99pgs
A22 Valve Body Repairs P31 23pgs
A28 Auto Trans Trouble Shooting 490-621
(G28 Man Trans is in process of conversion and not on this version)

-BODY
Body Dimensions and Literature Guide 1978 on 3pgs
Diagnosing Body Damage 928S4 wks504-021 6 pgs
Repair of Aluminum Body Parts 494-921 21pgs
Repair Jobs on Aluminum Body Parts 4566.20 14 pgs

-OTHER
928S/S4 ABS Test Plan 493-721 54 pgs
928 Maintenance and General Repairs wks006021 24 pgs
Diagnosis of Instrument Cluster 495-821 13pgs pub 1988
Technical Bulletins 11/84 thru 1993 (only 928 ones) PNA000056 ~400pages

Again, I'd appreciate any help you can provide in identifying and helping me obtain 928 related technical publications I'm missing.

thanks,

Jim

I have a "Maintenance Repairs Adjustments" tech manual. Looks to be Old Bugger/CIS related. Funny, but there is a description on Timing belt adjustment. It says "you should just be able to twist the belt 90 degrees". Must have been really early before all the T-belt failures.

I have had many of these manuals (pictures on my web site if interested) for long enough to read them a few times - not that I understand everything though .

However, I have found there are so many it gets overwhelming so let me list my opinion on the most useful 928 info. Others welcome to chime in.

1. Owners Manual for you Model year.
2. 928 Workshop Manuals
3. Service Information Manual for your model year.
4. PET CD - part numbers and illustrations.
5. Tech. Bulletins

The additional manuals were published to provide the Porsche Technician with a handy repair manual and may contain some additional information not in the Workshop Manuals. These come in handy for specific problems and seem easier to use than the 9 vol set of workshop manuals.

Were any additional manuals, like the ones listed on your site, made for the 944?

I'm not sure how many were made for the 944 since I haven't paid close attention while searching for 928 material but I do recall seeing some on 944 systems. I'm not certain how you'd go about locating them. Jerry, you mentioned (I think) a listing of Porsche Tech Pubs...have you seen much that was 944 specific?

There is almost as much for the 944 as the 928. All of the manuals are very similar.

Below is my link to my other Porsche Manuals - I only have 5 for the 944. I can get some pictures if you want.

Jim: I have the Mitchell CD's on Porsche service manuals that have been somewhat usefull. Are you familiar with these and could they be of help. If so I can give you more details off line.

Gordon,
I've seen some printouts from these at a friends shop but have never seen any 928 material. How useful do you think it is compared to the shop manuals? Also sent you an email.

Jim, could you post any of the PIFs to a website? It would be great to check out some of the miscellaneous supplements that way.

Marton, I've sent you an email w details.

Tom, ashamed to say I haven't taken advantage yet of rennlist's hosting to put up my own website. One of these days. I could extract a page or two if you'd like but there are a lot of pages (over 2000 and growing).

Check out this Porsche Manual dated 2/78. My friend has asked that I put it on ebay. Was this K-Jetronic just in the 1977 - 1979 928?

Jerry,
the K-Jet (CIS) was used on the ROW cars up/inc '83 and on US cars in '78,'79.

Any chance of getting that one for the CDs? hardcopy/scan?

BTW, the response on the CDs has been great and the next version should have the A22 transmission books, some Euro version manuals, the early tech bulletins, the '80 Service Info, and possibly more.

Jim
