If I don't quit kicking mine and knocking off the trim piece, I won't have one much longer.

All LHD cars had tray on both sides up to time when airbags arrived. After that they could not be used due possibility of stuff flying between inflating bag and person sitting in seat. Instead knee protection bolster was installed on drivers side.
RHD cars used old style non airbag dash up to begining of '93 MY. Those cars which had just drivers side bag still kept tray on passanger side. These '91.5-92 cars should be only ones which had only one tray.

My '81 did not have the driver side (i think it came from factory that way) as I had tomake the mounting points underneath. I found the one in now on ebay, and I am sure 928intl will have a few.

I had to add the tray back in on my pass side. I don't think my OB has mounts for one on the driverside. I'll look the next time I go look at it in the shop. If it's supposed to have the driverside one I need to buy one.

Unless you want to show or sell the car, don't bother with the tray under the dash pod, it just get in the way of your knees and shins. My last car had one and I always felt cramped getting in and out and while driving, new one doesn't have one and I would never consider putting one back in there, it is a HUGE improvement in ergonomics not having one imo, besides doing away with dead weight.

I had them both in my old 83, kicked the driver's one out the first or second time I drove it, thought it was silly. Ripped off the door sill plates too, but I was less patient then. Well I have them both in my current 83 and I'm much calmer now, and I'm used to them. Besides they are handy for stuff. And now that I'm more careful in my old age, I don't have any trouble with them getting in/out or driving.
