Default shock snubbers - generic replacement?

I am in the middle of replacing springs and shocks and am getting ready to bolt it all back together. I just noticed that I am missing the shock snubbers. The old ones are gone and I have no new ones.

Would a hard rubber "plug" be up for the job? I found a rubber compression plug at PepBoys that seems to be OK. It's a hard rubber plug about 40mm diameter by 30mm thick with a hole in the center. I guess it is made to replace freeze plugs and should be designed to handle high temperatures.

I just want to get it done now, is there any reason I shouldn't use these generic parts? I guess it will do the same protective job if the suspension ever bottoms out.

The original ones in my old assemblies where basically rotted away. I am pretty sure the rubber would do a better job then the plastic / foam factory parts.

I would go to a tire shop or a place that does shock replacement and get a generic shock snubber for replacement on your car. I wouldnt use just a generic chunk or rubber. How dense is that? Sure having that is better then none at all, but try a place locally that may have something better then just a rubber butt plug, i mean plug.

Aren't the replacements like $12 each or have these become NLA?

Shock snubbers also act as auxiliary springs. You don't want something extremely hard or very thin. You can get aftermarket Energy Suspension polyurethane snubbers at most auto parts stores. You could also go to a dealer or parts store and find a random OEM snubber about 2" long to work.
