Thought I'ld bump this back up as I now have an X on order from Roger (I have one on order from DR also but thats another story)

To get it shipped here it has to have as a minimum 10" cut off the outlet pipes so it will fit in the flat rate postal box.

I've decided I am going to go the route of mufflers after the X.

The question is - what off the shelf mufflers have people used and crucially what size ? pipe dia, muffler diameter and length. I'm thinking of using Magnaflow as they seem to be reasonably available here n OZ - they do a good range of sizes - both length dia and pipe size - any ideas on what fits so I can tell Roger to get 14" cut off or 16" or whatever. Or am I best getting the minimum amount cut off and waiting for the X to arrive then cutting again to suit the mufflers when I have them.

This won't answer your exact question, but it might help you. Hopefully the late-model guys can build off this and answer your question.

I just bought a pair of Magnaflows for the midsection. Got the idea from somebody else here on the board. Am converting an 84 16V to dual. Am feeling my way through.

The measurements on the Magnaflow site were accurate. The muffler section is 4 inches high by 9 inches wide exactly. Body is very close to 11 inches. End pipe to end pipe is 17 inches. They fit nicely when held-up against the underbody on both left and right sides. Key is having offset side inlet and offset side outlet, directly opposed, not staggered. These were back ordered for a week or so. Pipes are 2 1/4 ID, 2 3/8 OD; not sure what you need. Quality in terms of fit / finish of these Magnaflows is exceptional. They came polished and shrinkwraped.

Of the 17 inches overall, the pipes account for about 2 7/8 length on each end. Of that, about 1 7/8 on each end is useable for overlap, the remaining inch on each end is fillet & taper so is not part of the overlap equation.

Also bought the dual-in dual-out piece. Will use it in the rear area. This was about 120 USD. Offsets, above, were 95 USD each.

I'd ask Roger to trim the minimum from the X-pipe.

Chris

Thanks for the detailed reply. It's bedtime here in OZ so I'll digest thoroughly in the morning.

Thanks again

Hey Landseer, that's the exhaust set up I'm looking to do. Any idea how it sounds?
