Hello gang....curious about your opinion on high mileage vehicles....looking for a used s4 and i know about getting inspection done b4 purchase but is there a limit on mileage as to when you should avoid the car even though it may be in good shape .... also what things need to be replaced due to high mileage even though the upkeep on the car has been done and is considered in good shape with the service records....for example there is a s4 for sale in the classifieds here with 150,000 miles on the car and is said to be in good shape.....when is too much..too much.............your opinions please...THANK YOU <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />
Scully,
I can't speak for the S4's personally, but I think as long as you get a clean bill of health from the PPI you should have no problem going another 100,000 miles with good maint. and repairs of the things that will fail with age.
As an example, I remember reading recently that someone won the Silver State Classic Race in an S4 with over 200,000 mi. on the clock.
I agree with the others - A PROPERLY MAINTAINED shark is good for PLENTY of miles over the 150k. Hey - if it's a '88, then its 15 years old...that's ONLY 10k miles/year.
It ACTUALLY may be a better buy than one with, say, 90k miles....IF 'Properly Maintained' thing is there. It could have had maintenance done that the 90k could need!
I have an 87s4 5spd with 130k on the clock and drive it about 100 miles a day round trip to work and back. Suprisingly, it just seems to run better and better as more miles turn over!
