I can ship tomorrow for $455 the set.
USPS Express and you would have them on Friday before 12 noon.

might as well do the upgrade since you have to buy paint. How is the rest of the repair coming along?

Jim,

Holy moly - timing is a funny thing. I just talked to you guys last week or the week before (when I ordered the seals etc) and was told that they had been on back order in Germany for 6 months. I didn't even think to try calling you again given that discussion. Maybe the 'today' means that they actually arrived just today! Thanks anyway, Roger is hooking me up now.

FW5S,

The car is coming along nicely. The repair is done from the 'early christmas present' hit that I received. On top of that, I had the small rust spot by the rear quarter window repaired and acquired a new metal cowl piece because mine was showing some rust. I am getting it done right. All glass has been removed as well as door seals etc. Hatch removed. Front and rear bumpers removed. Hood removed. I had them weld in metal where the quarter marker lights were slapped on during importation. It will be a clean look Euro again - no door ding strips either - never had them. When they removed the glass, they found some other small rust spot forming around the driver's side rear quarter window under the paint. That has also been repaired. Also, under the driver's side rear view mirror when removed, we saw some tiny bubbles just starting to show under the original paint. Also repaired. New seals are going in. I am looking forward to getting it back - should be Wednesday next week. I will post pics.

Bye for now.

6 months on back order?

When i needed parts from Germany i was able to pay 10% more and have them quicker then it takes to get from the warehouse in GA or CA.

I havent ever heard of Porsche having backorder parts, not for a 15 year old car. They either have them or they dont. I dont think any 928 parts are still being popped out.

.
That works when they exist in Germany but when they don't we wait. It's also possible that the kit is assembled in North America and had a low priority.

my point was why were you waiting, are they still making 928 parts? That honestly suprises me. I am not doubting what your saying but its suprising.

I would think porsche would be glad to get rid of 928 parts and all other defunct cars as wel, to carry that inventory is just a pain i would think. So the fact that they are on backorder seems to me that they are still being produced. Even though the car is now how old?

I have a lot of 928 parts on Back order with Porsche.
Back order means they will possibly be supplied as opposed to NLA.
Big difference.

Ryan,
So did Sunset deliver to you direct overnight from Germany for 10% extra??
You ordered today and for 10% more you received the part at your house tomorrow.
If that were the case we 928 suppliers would be ordering from Sunset.
Interested in your answer?
Best,
Roger

Then this solves the question on exactly what "back order" is defined as. I misunderstood the term.

Roger, I havent mentioned Sunset in the past months because I know you sell this stuff and I like you and youve been a great help. Not sure where your going with this, but if you must know then i will tell you.

When i needed a fuel pump that was not in the country, I was told that it would come from Germany but take 3-4 weeks. I asked if there was a quicker option and they told me that yes if you pay 10% more then they can fly it out. What ended up happening is that they got the pump from Germany 2 days before the pump from atlanta came so that was a great help to me.

Now i dont need things next day, but when i do i call 928INTL when i lived in CA and you now that i am here.

I know you cant compete with their pricing, thats why i dont mention them anymore, i do as you know do most of my ordering from them. But i must say that allot of people always go with the service thing as the means to get a sale, which your service is awesome. But its not like Sunset is a bunch of clowns and jack ***'s. To be honest, the only problem is that when i order it usually takes then 2-3 days to get the parts from the warehouse in GA or CA, and then the UPS takes another 4 days or so to get to Texas. But currently i am in no rush so its great for me. But to answer your question if they could supply me with parts next day, I am sure they could if i asked assuming they have it in stock. But they dont have many 928 parts on their shelves for obvious reasons, so most everything has to come from the warehouse and that takes an extra 2 days. So next day for an item thats in the warehouse is probably impossible.

The main thing i got from this post, is that Porsche is apparently still ordering up new parts for an aging platform that they have no legal responsibility to support any longer. Thats cool.

Ryan,
Thanks for the answer - it was a genuine question that I need to know the answer to - not playing games here.
My Porsche dealer - Autobahn Ft. Worth ( Justin & Clint) are awesome and can usually get me everything I want within 24 hours if I need it quick. Even from Germany.
Customers will pay for service and I strive to supply it.

My background is Sales & Marketing and I like to know my compertition better than I know my own business. In this case Sunset cannot compete with the quick service unless it is at a premium.
Just information I was interested in.

Thanks for not mentioning Sunset to much and I know they are proffesionals as I have dealt with them. 8>)
