Illumination question
Sorry if this question is silly, but is the fan speed **** on the climate control ever supposed to be illuminated?
I'm in the process of replacing bulbs and switches...if anyone can post a pic of a 928S instrument panel properly illuminated, it would be helpful. I just don't know how bright my instruments are supposed to be!

While I had my console out to check for burnt out lights and vacuum leaks I wondered the same thing, I pulled the **** off and can tell you no, there is no light in it (at least not in my 87', it's solid rubber)

Looking over the archives, there have been several discussions regarding the brightness of the instrumentation, so I know I'm not alone on this topic. However, how can one tell if their shark is illuminated to the original level? If someone would take a few minutes to turn out the lights in his/her garage, fire up the dash lights, and post a photo of the instrument cluster, I think it would help those of us who aren't sure whether some repair work is due.
Thanks in advance.

Dave,
I just did this.
My bulb was burned out and I had no illumination at all. After replacing the bulb, I still found the brightness terrible on the buttons and the fan ****. With the exception of the face plate which recieves light directly from the bulb, you have to be in complete darkness to see the button illumination and even then, its more like the a soft glow-in-the-dark effect you might get from a standard dial wrist watch.
In mine which is an '81, my headlight switch glows all the times. I presume so you can find it in the dark. The button illumination is a little less bright than that.
FYI. buttons and ***** get light from the one bulb through 4 fiber opitic cables. I replaced a couple that were broken with a larger 2mm unjacketed fiber and it did help the brightness but it doesn't flex as easilty as the stock units and I suspect this will not last as long.
Good luck.
