Cool Retrofitting hatch release

Anyone done this one?

Retrofit a hatch release from a newer model ('87 and up) into an earlier car?

If so, any BTDT stories?

Since I installed a Clifford alarm recently, I'd like to utilize the extra functions and add a hatch release that can be controlled by the alarm and a manual switch.

Thanks in advance.

There is no difference. The same hatch release motor is used from '85-up.

This shouldn't be too difficult an installation, except for running the wires up to the release buttons, if you wanted to install them.

I have retrofitted my 79 with a hatch release. Not difficult, and very handy, as I thought I would break the key every time I had to open the hatch with it. Well worth the effort.

Sorry... I didn't do my homework before posting.

Actually there is a difference in part numbers from my '81 and an '87. I am referencing the lower lid receiver and not the lock mechanism

The '81 has P/N 928.512.555.02 -- lid lock lower
The '87 has P/N 928.512.555.20 -- lid lock lower

The primary difference is the later lower lid lock has a connecting rod attached to the mechansim so the release motor has a drive point.

I think, to do the job, one would need the following parts:

928.512.555.20 -- Lower lid lock
928.624.407.02 -- Electic motor
928.624.049.00 -- Mounting bracket for motor.

Anyone parting out a car with hatch release?

Thanks for the reply Wally.

Scott
