Post Front Spoiler cracked ??

Has any one fixed a crack in the front spoiler ?

Ran into a curb yesterday and now there is a 3 inch crack on left side, Any product that works best or does it just need to be replaced?

Thanks

Richard

Richard, I had the same thing happen to my previous 928. I took a strip of metal and some 6-32 screws and basically installed them from underneath. For a 3" break maybe 3 or 4 screws per side of the crack. You'll have the screws sticking out of the front...just grind them down and take care of the cosmetics. I painted the screws black and it was very hard to tell it had been damaged unless you got down close to it. I used stainless steel screws which you can get a local home store.

Cool

Try a product called Dura-mix. You'll find it in auto paint stores. Use Dura-mix 4036 and you'll need a prep material which they will recommend. You will need to sand the edges of the tear and prep them. Then follow the directions. I would start in the evening and let the product cure over night. Then finish sand the repair the next day. No one will be able to spot the repair unless they get close.

What is needed is a warning sensor placed on the bottom of the spoiler and projecting from it which will scrape the road or curb before the spoiler comes in contact. That way the driver may stop before trashing the spoiler. There were once metal sensors attached to the edge of fenders to protect whitewall tires (in the 50s) from curb scuffs. They would work well for spoilers on 928s. I'm still working on a design for one that can be installed easily. <img border="0" alt="[byebye]" title="" src="graemlins/wave.gif" />

My 928 has two spoiler-protection sensors - Eyeball, Mk 1, two each.

My spoiler received a large crack when entering a garage lift. It cracked in completely through the right side air duct into two pieces. I used a combination of techniques to fix it...mechanical and chemical. I removed the spoiler from the car and reinforced behind the break with strips of aluminum and used pop rivets to secure in place. This provided the structural repair. Then I used a flexible 2-part epoxy to fill and bond the cracks together. Any auto body supply store can fix you up with this stuff...just make sure you get the product for repairing flexible plastic parts...not rigid ones, as there are two types.

A few applications of the epoxy, some sanding and the spoiler looked great...except for the color and finish. I had a local detail shop spray paint the entire spoiler with a textured satin black finish. The end product looked very stock. Total cost was less than $60US.

Hope this helps,

Those fender things were called "curb feelers" back in the day.

I've noticed with my car at the correct ride height I have yet to hit my spoiler on much of anything.

Of couse, I've also learned just how far I can pull into a parking spot before the spoiler hits.

If you're new to 928s, leave the broken spoiler on to use as a "learning spoiler" until you learn where the nose of the car is, and once you're good at parking it without hitting the spoiler, get a nice new one.
