small fire

what Jim is referring to is that the hard lines that send ATF fluid from the cooler to the trans have sections that are connected with flexible rubber lines and over time the swaged factory fittings begin to leak or the lines themselves begin to split, thus the spraying of fluid .
The flexible lines run near the front of the cats on the right side of the lower body support , and also there are flexible lines that run near the forward section of the tansaxle

on each side. My question for Jim though is about the cats - what causes them to get red hot like that and is it common. If so, I better get my lines fixed (the leaks are small and only drip for a short bit after the car is parked)...

The cats getting hot are the result of raw fuel being sent to them due to a shut down igniton system (the fuel injectors are still injecting) without the spark being sent to the plugs this super heats the cats and then they will glow red and anything that is near them will burn just stick you head under the car while its running see if your cats are red? If so park the car outside till it cools off, wouldnt want to burn down the house/garage too

jeezuz - now I'm scared to pull into the garage! I don't park outside. I have never noticed this issue before with my car being super red hot underneath...I will check in the future. How do you fix if you have this issue?

you really wont be able to drive the car if its running on half of the cyls so theres not much to worry about , i would investigate the ATF leak though

Morgan,
Did you replace the driver's side coil wire? At the GTG last Fall, we noticed the outer insulation was worn through and suggested that you replace the sparkplug and coil wires as they were showing their age. If I remember correctly, the group at the GTG also suggested a full tune-up as well - fuel filter, air filter, sparkplugs, caps, rotors, etc. and the all important fuel lines too.
With Spring around the corner, it would be a good idea to address these items to insure a trouble-free 2008 driving season. If you need our help, please be sure to let us know.
