It will sound a lot like the average loud(ish) Mustang. Flowmaster 40 is the standard Mustang GT aftermarket muffler and 928 cylinder timing is the same. They don't sound bad, but I think Magnaflow/Borla straight through mufflers sound a lot better.

Not true. I've heard a 40 series on 928s before and it was enough to get me to buy a pair of Super 40s, which are louder

That's funny.
Today at work a guy gave me a pair of 2007 Mustang OE mufflers with chrome ends... Says his new flowmasters sound the same, shoulda never changed em.

They seem too big for my car, not sure if I can use.

I was planning on running these with no cats (cause in Mo. if ya no someone...well nm.) Anyone have a sound clip or will it sound like a 302 ford without cats and 40's?

I have super 40's with no cats and an x-pipe, sounds like a mustang with flowmasters. A sound I for one like.

I run one - 2 chamber FM on my track car. From MSDS headers - straight pipes that merg into a 3' pipe with the muffler at the end.

This is the best comparison I could find with the exception my track is louder under throttle.

Thanks. I think that sounds pretty mean.

I have a single 40. Nothing else.

VERY loud. But I love it! Yes, mustang is actually what I wanted. Shut up FlyingDog!

40s do sound very nice. A pair of them should work pretty nicely on a 928. Magnaflow type mufflers are less restrictive, but on a stock engine there probably wouldn't be a lot of benefit.

We're you complaining a few weeks ago that your car drones?

Not only are they less restrictive, they sound better and last longer. The new ones are all stainless. I bought mine before the changeover so mine has stainless pipe, sound deadening, and an aluminized steel body.

I didn't like my Flowmaster until I added dual resonators upstream. Toned it down and lost the high-pitch raspy sound. I love the sound at idle and low rpm.

Okay I don't understand how some people can say the 928 would sound like a Mustang when someone installs Flowmasters on it. They are 2 completely different motors. A sharp ear will tell the difference between how a 4-Cam 32-valve engine sounds compared to a Single Cam Pushrod V8. Unless I just grew up around too many muscle cars and 928s when I was little...

Yes, but being a V8 with the same firing order and similar displacement makes them sound pretty similar.

Not old 302 Mustangs, 4.6l SOHC and 4.6l/5.4lDOHC Mustangs to be exact.
