Post Vertex Auto

Has anyone dealt with Vertex Auto for 928 parts?
In particular their prices for rebuilt 5 speed transmissions seem really good.
Thanks.

Cool

I have done several orders through Vertex and would rate them about a 7 or 8 for customer service. They usually get things right, but not always the first time. They are more than willing to try to correct their mistakes. Their prices are about even or a little less than the big three. Overall, they are worth checking with. I don't know the quality of their rebuilds, I've only bought new items. Good luck! Dave

I've used them too. I've never had a porblem with them. You do have to watch because some prices are better and some are worst. I've also used Zims and their not too bad either.

I agree with kethmi that the service isn't up to my favorite (828 specialists) level. I try to use them unless there is a stock or real price issue.

Joel - A friend of mine ordered a rebuilt '85 or '86 (can't remember) 5 Speed from Vertex. He wasn't excited about the overall appearance of the unit (it was pretty grungy looking). He couldn't tell if there were new gaskets installed or not. However, he installed it and is driving it. You may want to ask Vertex exactly what they 'rebuild'/ replace. Hope this helps. I've had no problems buying new items from them (radiator, clutch master/ slave units, switches, oil filters, etc...). Hope this helps.

Some people have complained about the quality of rebuilds. I got a rebuilt 5-speed for my 84 944 and used it for a significant period (eg several years) including autoX and DE's and never had any problems or complaints. It was still going strong when I sold the car (got 944S) and for that matter a year later when I saw the car again at Parade in Milwaukee. I also got a rebuilt PS rack for the same car, same story.

My only complaint is that it took a little prodding to get core credited. It was suggested by my mechanic that places are sometimes like that as they are used to dealing with shops that have a constant flow of business rather than us individuals.
