Cool Gullwing fever

Has anyone seen any of these gullwing cars up close?

Specifically, what does the upper hinge look like? I can see the lower lift shock, but the upper hinge eludes me.

PS: Santa, all I want for Xmas/Quanza/Chanukkah is a gull-wing kit! (Or just a picture, and I'll make it!)

Very good question, you can see that it attaches to the B pillar somewheres, and the part I don't understand is how you fit the shock there in the first place! I am HIGHLY interested in doing this as I've always loved doors that open in the gull-wing fashion or similar to, and emailed Strosek about that. They were kinda lame about it and said they wont sell parts to do it, and will only do the conversion at their plant - Bastards! How about we make our own?

I wonder if they have retained the close on your leg feature like the stock door. Ouch!

I looked into this many years back when I fist purchaced my shark. I know that here in Boston Roger Clemens had one made by Strosek wich is basically the real version of what jacquemond is producing. Fred opert racing used to sell the kit and they told me that the doors are not stock but actually all fiberglass in order to reduce the weight. As far as where the hinges mount and all that other good stuff, you will never see a good close up for the reason of copying the design.

Here is a conversion for civics and other cars like a nsx, it could probably be adapted somehow.
http://www.decah.net/ $1,600 for the kit.

Thanks for the info!

The only setup so far that I could envision that could be used without modifying the car is an uneven scissor 'X' action that would attach at the stock locations. There is a small but, I think, usable, space behind the front portion of the door for this.

Seek and yea shall find... Just needed the right word for the search engines; 'scissor door'.

I think my 928 would look better with scissor doors. (Yes, that's an Escort!)

Okay.. Gullwing doors open swinging up from the roof line, doors lines stay horizotal. The Pic you have at the top is of Butterfly doors. The doors swing off the A-piller and is the easyest conversion. Looks Strange to me. The Scissor or Jack knife door set up as with Lambo's are best with wide fenders and doors. Our 928 doors are widest on the inside which is tougher. Most of the Rice car conversions done on Japan made autos have thin doors. Thier Scissor door conversions are almost all different. Depending on door thickness, A-Piller, window frame config and Door shape the hinges as on the above link http://www.iserv.net/~strdream/hinges.html are some of the nicest around. But the thicker the door.. the more the doors 1st motion is to push out at a angle before it can swing up. This is why most Scissor door conversions with wide doors tend to be more Butterfly. A good Scissor hinge for a wide a door as ours I have not seen yet. but I'm working on it. I love to Draw and Weld. So if you look in to it as I have you will see the angle of the hinge is mounted different on each setup. Some cars have been set up with GMC and Ford rear hatch hinges that are very cheep, but they also swing the door out at a angle before it swings up. Again a Butterfly! Hey I like butterflys as much as any girl but Don't call my Shark a Pretty little butterfly!!! Now you can call me that. But I must warn you I study Wing Chun Gung Fu! True Scissor doors would be hot, and also it would be less awkward then butterfly. My friend is getting ready to mold me a Carbon fiber Hood for my 928 And maybe fenders after the new nose. The doors may be needed if the weight of each is to much for the lift strut. By the way the lift stut is the easy part NO Problem Man!! I was just going to ask you fellows this week if anyone knew how much a door weighs. Okay... Now I can not use my spell check so if i miss spelled too much sorry. I know how some of you boys hate that.
Your so sensitive!
