Front shock upper mount question
I'm probably just manufacturing something to worry about here, but here goes:
This is the front passenger side coilover that I pulled tonight. The front shocks have never been out of the car and are shot. There's either A) a heck of a lot of extra casting flash on the rubber portion of the upper mount, or B) the rubber's coming apart. At $200+ for the mount (928.343.047.07), I hope that it's just A). There was no reason to suspect a problem with it based on how the car was driving, so this is likely fine and I'm making much ado about nothing (?)
The car's been in SoCal its whole 18-year life. Anybody seen one like this? ?

Yes just casting flash or the upper alu casting and the top spring perch seemed as far as I could tell to have originally been coated in rubber - as the alu surface undercorrodes the rubber looses it's bond.
A manual wire brush should remove most of the loose rubber. I de-rusted then painted the perch and upper casting - makes a 1 hour job into a 1 week job.
