Fuel injector clicking

I have a clicking noise which I have traced to the passenger fuel rail using the highly technical "screwdriver to ear" method.
I know little about FI symptoms and I am wondering what the clicking would be caused by.
I have added techron and will continue to do so at each fill up.
Any ideas?
Thans in advance,
Greg

Greg,
FWIW
Welcome to the 'click', pun intended.
For some reason the only sHARk hoods I have been under -one exception a 86 1/2- are/were 79' thru 83' MY. In every case there was that light clicking. Close your eye's it gets louder!
In each case I placed my hand - need a glove sometimes, hot...- on the intake housing and it almost goes away. At first I figured it was a intake leak as I always pressed down on the intake. Then I noticed I didn't have to press down or even touch the intake and the clicking would drop a few decibles. Try this: stand in front center of the car - hood up, engine running - .
Listen for the clicking, reach for the center of the intake with your right hand extended, palm down. Then do the same with your left hand. Try it a few times and the clicking will almost disappear. In effect your extended hand and arm , especially if you wear a long sleeved shirt, are muffling the click.
I work around diesel's all the time and the shop mechanic says that the clicking is normal.
This is unfounded theory, but I think we are hearing the injectors cycling and the sound is being transmitted thru the fuel rails.
wether this is good or bad I DON'T KNOW...
Keep em' rolling.

Clicking is normal, I used to have a pontiac firebird and clicked louder than the porsche. I have also heard some mechanics(that i asked whats that clicking souund?) say it is normal to. The firebird clicked the injectors for about 100,000miles and it still clicks and runs.

The clicking is the electric fuel injectors opening and closing. Electric fuel injectors are basically just electric solenoids that open and close a valve, starting and stopping the flow of fuel. The clicking is just those solonids in the injectors doing what they're supposed to.

Greg,
My 86.5 clicks much louder than my 87. I have been hopping that it is a bad injector. I have been dreaming that I could put in one of those $25 Bosch(Ford) injectors suggested by Mark R of FAST and gain a few horsies with that $25. I am eager to see what happens to your click, please keep us posted.

He says the 19# units are for the stock S4 and the 24# units are for modified $4s w/adj FPR and 85-86. You will need a seal kit though.

Greg:
I had my 85 parked next to an 82 and (I believe) a euro 84 a couple weeks ago. All three had the same clicking noise.
