I agree with the consensus here, the lines can look fine until their not fine, which is too late. I just did mine this weekend and I was very surprised to find that one of the ones in there (actually the only one that wasn't original and looked OK) was the wrong ID, was cracked on the inside and was a BMW part!
(It's #10 on the PET-6 for my car, the long one that goes to the lower fuel cooler and has hose clamps instead of swage fittings).

This one was over clamped because it wasn't the right size for the nipples and was cracked as a result.

BTW- Thanks ROGER!

Mason,

Looks can be deceiving. If they are the originals, I would replace them ASAP. Are the fuel lines attached to the fuel line fittings with hose clamps or swaged (sp?) fittings? If swaged, they are mostly original and 22+ years old.

We did the fuel lines on Mike's '85 yesterday morning. All the hoses were original except for one. That one was replaced at some point with a piece of fuel line (had "BMW" on it) that had a slightly larger inner diameter. The clamps were your standard worm-drive hose clamps (not good for fuel injection lines where the pressures are 40+ psi) and they did not have enough clamping pressure as the hose would spin on the fuel pipe with the clamp in place.

I'm sure Mike slept better last night knowing this job is behind him.
