That makes sense to me. Styling Garage Stutgart or SGS was a very respected tuner back in the 80's. They were most widely known for their work on mercedes, including one of the best gullwing SEC coupe conversions.
Has anyone figured out how much this car is in US$.

Fascinating!
I've always liked DeLoreans, since my dad's friend had one in the early '80's and brought it to the house. I rode in it once- it had plenty of rattles. But not plenty of power-
I wonder if the 928 gull-wing kit rattles? I wonder if there is a limitation about driving it with the doors open. Obviously this would have to take place at low speeds...but can it be done?
I once flew an Aerospatiale TB-9 light airplane that had gull wing doors like this. There was a printed limitation in the plane's manual [making it a legal requirement] NOT to open the doors when taxiing. Great. In Florida. Without air conditioning....on a 90 degree day?
[Of course, I NEVER taxiied with the doors cracked and my right hand holding the thing down so that it would not fly open~]
Despite my fascination with this...I bet that this is a BITCH of a conversion to get right! No thanx-

SGS stands for Styling Garage Scheenefeld - a suburb of Hamburg (far from Stuttgart). The company (founded in 1979 by Chris Hahn) went belly up in '86, but some of their international subsidiaries survived. The parent company was replaced by the Design + Technik GmbH, which was focusing primarily on development for the car industry, but continued to provide the same customizations SGS used to offer.
If this is the same car featured in my magazine (which I believe strongly), it was ordered by nightclub owner Kiminari Kawashima from Minato-ku, Tokio, on June 4, 1987. It was shipped to Japan on September 29, 1987. Price was DM296,000 at the time - that's an approximate US$180,000.
The door conversion alone was DM78,000, including reinforcement of the roof structure and the doors themselves. The doors weigh 50kg each; water is drained through special channes. The doors can be operated through hydraulics (5 seconds up or down, operated with buttons in the center console). The hinges are designed to withstand the forces of 150km/h (95mph) - with the doors OPEN!!!
The rest of the look was done by Vittorio Strosek, including some minor suspension mods. In my magazine, the car is shown with Strosek's flat aerodynamic wheel covers.
The engine was just fine tuned to make up for the extra 100kg of weight of the commpleted car.
The interior is all custom red leather and velour fabric. In my magazine, the instrument pod and steering wheel are shown in black, but the pictures were taken before the car was completed and shipped to Japan.
Plans were to put the car on display at a Mr. Kawashima's nightclub in Tokio for about a year.

Nicole, your depth of 928 knowledge never will be equaled by another human. See you in 3 weeks.
BTW, Quinn's dad, Chris, and Paul (who now owns his own 87' partially thanks to riding with you) will be coming over too.

Nicole - Seems you know almost everything .. : )
Always appreciate your knowledge on 928s.
After checking out some customized 928s on bcdavis' webpage (Don't get me wrong, I think those cars are well made and nice), I now have MORE appreciation for the original style of 928 !!

Yeah...
Many of the custom 928s are overdone.
The stock 928 has really smooth and graceful lines.
Once you stick on side skirts, or tacky flares, it really ruins the original lines. There are only a handful of kits that keep the rounded curves intact, and blend smoothly into the original lines.
But I like to collect pictures of all the really unique variations of the 928...

Not that I would ever mess up the lines on my classic '79, ( I was already scolded by Nicole and a number of others for just considering to add a rear wing).
I still like to check out what has been done, what is the link for bcdavis' website.
Also, Nicole, Minato-ku is in Tokyo, not Tokio. I used to live in that neighborhood.
Aloha,

bcdavis:
The pictures of the pearl white GTS with the wing doors are not from Saudi Arabia - they come from a German dealer who offered the car online a few years back.
