Post for my next trick...

there's another VW mod i'm looking into. would anyone be interested in having their sunroof be "one-touch" open/close?

this is fairly recent on the vw scene, so i haven't really gotten into the wiring yet, but i'm thinking about it...

You mean as opposed to having the button stick? There's a wiring way to one touch open/close it?

Sure. What'll it take?

this one's a little more extensive. it requires splicing in one relay for each direction. i'm not even sure i'm doing it to the VW yet...

V8,
Speak of the devil... Had some door squeaks, right window switch glitch -intermittent opn.- and a slow sunroof.
Cleaned the door hinges, door pin switchs, rails on the sunroof and deflector pivot pins.
Graphite for everybody! swapped switches to get the Pass. window up. Pulled the switch caps on all four console switches, 2 rocker contact type, 2 spring ball bearing type. Cleaned adjusted(?) all switches, and applied light lube.
Now the rear wiper motor cycles but nothing happens and the sunroof has the single touch/full open mod.
So,Jim?
Just let me mess with everybody's switches and you can save the cost of the switch and manhours on the wiring.
On the up side, the sunroof closes smooth and FAST now

Cool

Single touch full-open mod?

Uhmm...how did you make this happen? My '85 doesn't do this. I'd KILL to make it work that way, and the same goes with the windows!

-My previous car, a '92 Corrado had one touch down windows, and you could even close everything up with the key in the doorlock from outside the car. How many of these functions can be adapted to our 928's?

Normy!

Don't know when this changed, but mine is combination- short hold & release, full open. Stop anywhere by tapping again. To close I have to hold it down. Windows same thing, except driver's closes fully.
Of course, on this one everything closes from outside when activating the locking system.
Cheers,
Donald

Better living through electronics...

This feature has been around (windows anyway) since at least the very late 80s/early 90s. I know it was on Toyota Celicas, and probably Camrys and Supras as well. As well as Normy's Corrado.

I'll try to look up a wiring diagram and see how the crafty Japanese electronics mavens made it work (there are several possible solutions to the problem).

Doubt it would be plug and play, but might not be too tough to splice in. I'll try to look over the weekend.

Normy,
The GTS and late S4's/GT's do all these things already. Windows, sunroof all fully open with 1 click (in fact if you press all three buttons it will open them all in sequence). It also (MY90 & up I think?) closes all of them (in sequence) by holding the key in the lock position, (works in the hatch too).

Given this - maybe looking at the differences in wiring, switchgear/relays etc to the GTS would be worthwhile. An all Porsche solution (of course might well mean more expensive unless you can find a nice late model wreck for parts.)

None of these auto close - you have to hold the switch/key - a safety thing I guess.

Ahh, I remember now. For those looking for an aftermarket solution to this question, the place to check out is www.autoloc.com they sell a variety of solenoids (shaved door handles anyone?). They also sell an add-on "one touch" window device. I recall the price as either $30 or $40.

I am unsure as to whether the S4+ relay can be made to function in an early model car - according to the diagram, there is a minor difference (which of course, could be significant).

If I have time, I'll try to swap one out Sunday into my 84 and see what needs to be done to make it work.

HTH,

Greg

Paragon Products as the WindowsExpress kit for the 944 series of cars with one-touch up and down control. Fits into the wiring harness perfectly without any cutting or soldering needed.

If asked, I'm sure the manufacturer can whip up a sunroof version quite easily. He's actually a member of this board, Martin from NZ.
