MAF experiment
I have been having problems with my car lately. All indicators pointed to the MAF. Runs poorly after warmed up, running rich with petro smell, dies after decellerating. I am waiting on UPS to deliver a borrowed MAF from a Rennlister. Once my suspicions are confirmed I will contact JDS Porsche for a swap. I decided while waiting to try an experiment. The company I work for had the warehouse insulated recently with this new thin(1/4")sheets of insulation with aluminum backing on both sides. I wrapped my MAF with the insulation since my problem only occurs when the engine is warmed up. I tie wrapped it, cut out for the plug in, and taped the seems with aluminum tape. I drove the car for over an hour without any problems. I will still try out the borrowed MAF to make sure, but I just thought if someone else had the same problems and didn't have a MAF to borrow they could try this easy test. This is by no means a solution to the problem, but I wonder if doing this as preventive maintinence would prolong the life of the MAF. Just a thought.
