Malibus conversions are the only ones I like...mostly since he went the extra mile to make sure it was done right!!

Jim brings up a good point.....I read a comparison between the 6.2L 32V AMG V8 in all the 63 series cars and the Vette LS7.....so a 4 valve 6.2L vs the old school 7.0L.....both make over 500 hp (507 vs 505) both make similar torque (465 vs 475)....the vette is slightly lighter, but not much....now the RUB...a new LS7 costs about $12K.....I've seen them under that on sale....the list for the AMG motor is $50K+....so that means when its in the new C63 the rest of the car is only $15K or so I guess.....

Its also very easy to get more power from an LS7...cams & headers can get you near 600whp....

The tpi setup GM had a while back in the C4 vettes would look much better than that carb setup. That big air cleaner just looks so out of place in these cars. I happen to think that an LS series engine transplant would be the way to go in a 928 if one were so inclined. Lots of power, lower cg, lower weight and a LOT less maintenance. I have heard some C5 Z0-6 engines with aftermarket exhaust systems that absolutely scream and would be more than a suitable replacement for the Porsche engine. If I had to replace my engine and wanted to keep the car, I would be sorely tempted to go that route.

Jim; you would know better than I....Isn't it possible to repair a broken 928 engine (add a good used block or heads) for considerably less than $30,000 today?

very True...and I love the Jensen and Sunbeam component marriages. Forgot to mention those lovely 70's TVRs with Ford engines.

To each his own. Having seen the engine in both Porsche and Chevy, I still feel it looks better in a GTO.

Ohh, I don't know. It would probably depend on what else she's wearing...

I'm (originally) from Texas and retrofitting Detroit into Euro bodies is something that 12 cyl Jag owners did and we all understood why. This isn't something that I would imagine seeing on a regular basis with Porsches, except for special competitive examples. My original question to Jim was the availability and affordability of *used* blocks/heads as a remedy for damaged engines, with engine replacement expense being a possible cause for engine retrofits. Jim; what's the situation there?

We continue to buy and part out 928s so have complete engines , short blocks and used heads depending on what failed and what is still good. We do not have a GTS block or crank at this time. The basic rebuild parts gasket set ,bearings ,water pump ,t belt, sensors etc is about $1,500 depending on the year of the engine...shop labor would be at least $4,000 or so with a valve job.
