Is that all???

all good thoughts and points well given/taken. i have been looking at the 928,s hp to torqe ratios and have gained a new respect for the design of these cars. if you really want low end proformance i think it could be gained most and cheapest at the drive wheels, meaning rear end gear ratio. most euro built cars carry a rather tall rear end gear 280 to 310 rear ends while the cars spoken of as targets use 360 to 380 in the rear end ratio. i put a three series rear in a 5 series bmw and wowed myself at the difference it made. have my eye on a 735 with a bad rear end in it, will get it cheap when they ready to let it go. want try a 5 series in the 7 once. dont think swapping gears in the 928,s is all that cheap. but could be best money spent for the low end git mode you want. good luck.

The 650 hp small block chevy motor has been eye-balling the 928 <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" /> while it's been in the garage waiting for it's new trans. cooler lines to arrive. The motor was intended for the Ferrari 250 GTO kit car (seen to the right) but I'm afraid the Datsun 280Z chassis that it's built on won't handle the power. All it would take is a broken t-belt to seal the deal, then again a supercharger has a nice ring.

The coolest thing about this car is that it was first put on paper in the early 70's!! 72-73ish!! As they said in the book, they wanted a "timeless" design.
They did that and i think its a testiment to the car when people STILL think its new. IMHO there is much more to 928 ownership than just stop light performance....try handling, saftey, STYLE and a sense of history within PORSCHE. Ask the same guy who beats you at a stop light to race you from 60-0 : )
IMHO, the race begins at 60mph : ) There aint much that can go bumper to bumper with a 928 from there and sustain it...and thats in both directions braking and acceleration! As others have said, if you want a 0-60 car. Get another type..OR..as Mark Kibort has done (as well as others) gutt it, and you should hit the mid 4.5s with an S4 5spd. You will loose the creature comforts though!

With motors like that one pictured above around I think I'll give up on the faster 0-60 idea! No way I'm gonna keep up with that. I do enjoy the other aspects of the car anyway regardless of 0-60 times.
