Question 928 fixes itself...

My 928 had some strange problem where the cooling fans would stay on for a long time after the engine was shut off, sometimes for hours. This would of course drain the battery, which I'm now an expert at getting to quickly. Most of the time I've been propping the hood open just enough to get the fans to shut off.

However, this morning I shut the car off and spent a couple of minutes fooling with the sunshade. When I got out, the fans were off, which surprised me to say the least. I decided to risk it and left the hood closed, and to my delight things were great at lunch. I drove the car quite a bit to heat things up, but now the fans seem to shut off after a reasonable period of time!

The only thing that I've done recently was to leave the battery disconnected for about 10 minutes last night while adjusting the steering wheel. Could this have reset something? If so, I wonder why it didn't do so when I replaced the battery a couple of months ago.

Oh well, I'm happy with the way it behaves now, but I'm baffled as to why, and worried that it's a temporary thing. Do any of you gurus know what might be going on?

Thanks!

On the top of your intake there is a sensor with 2 wires attached. It simply unscrews. A new one is @$30-$40. Solved the forever running fans on my previous '87 and my current '89. It's a 2 minute fix.
