Default Everything old is new again (CupI ****...)

I cought a bad case of OEM rim-itis when I got my '90. Probably from drooling over pictures of the cars when they were new 20 years ago. Anyhoo, Heinrich set me up with a nice used set of factory Cup I's with RDK from his early '94 last fall, and I dropped them off at Al Reed's shop here in Anaheim back in September. I told him, no rush, since I didn't have a place to store them, nor did I have any rubber for them.

Well, the wife took care of the tire issue at Christmas, so I finally went and picked up the refinished rims today. I know they're just old n' busted 17's, but the factory wheels are modern art:

So are you going to stick with the factory TPM(RDK) system?

Dave C upgraded from D90s with rdk to cup 1 17" with rdk on his '91 GT and he is pretty psyched about it. Can't blame him, cool to be able to upgrade with the factory system working. Plus he has the 36psi sensors all around vs the D90s which used 44psi in the rear.

IIRR RDK sensor mounts need to be changed to bring sensors to correct distance from the wheels.

I totally agree. I scored a mint set of ET65 Cup 1s for my S2... they looked so sweet. I ran them for a year and then sold with a used set of Contis for $1500 here in the UK. and they didn't hang around at that price either.

I remember the day I found them on eBay - I was so excited!

Joel

PS: can't see the pic of the wheels though - is it working?

I guess I am confused. What is the difference between Cup I and Cup IIs. I thought I had Cup IIs on my car, but these look like what I have. I am going on what http://www.928registry.org/928-wheels.htm shows in the picture.

Does C2 mean Cup 2? BTW, the wheels are beautiful.

Those are the same wheels I have, and I thought/think they were/are C2. Also what is the 2 holes in the center caps for? I have those on mine also.

Erkka- I need to play around with fitment for the RDK. Using Andrew's wheel fitment calculator, the offset difference between the stock D90's and the CupI/C2 wheels is minimal (both 65 front, 55 vs 52.3 rear), though the the sensors will be 1/2" farther away on the 17" wheels. And there's no guarantee the sensor holes are located with the same 'offset' between the D90 and CupI's.

Did the CupI's come with 36psi sensors all around? THat would make my life easier- I could make up a set of 4 36psi sensors using the ones from my D90's, but it'd be nice to

Soup-

Dunno about the proper nomenclature, perhaps the 17" rims on '93-early
94 GTS should be C2-style, and the '94-'95 rims should be Cup style? (http://www.928registry.org/928-wheels.htm)

The holes in the center caps are for removing them, there's a U-shaped wire tool for pulling them off, or you can use 1 or 2 3mm allen wrenches with a 90o bend in them.

Rob,
Good choice, and they did a nice job on the refurbishing looks painted. The problem with powdercoating wheels is that it chips, unlike paint that scratches and is easily repairable.

They did powdercoat them, and I managed to chip one edge the powdercoat on one rim while getting them out of the trunk (I'm a moron sometimes....) Fortunately it won't show, but I'm nervous about getting tires mounted on them. I'll have to lube them up with a coat of Rejex first.

'92-'93 GTS is Cup I
'94-95 GTS is Cup II

Those are names used in Europe, US names are different. Since first US '94 cars were done in spring 1993 and in reality were exactly like '93 MY cars they used Cup I since thats what was still used in ROW cars to Cup II wasn't even available yet.
