Slide Throttle Individual Throttle Bodies

I was intrigued by the recent <a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=14;t=005209#000000" target="_blank">topic</a> of individual throttle bodies, but I could not find a decent description of why they give increased performance. Euro M bimmers have these, for example.
I recalled that some motorbikes had slide throttles, which instead of a butterfly a Guiotine blade slides in and out to limit the airflow, and thought this would be even better. I Googled 'slide throttle bodies' and found this <a href="http://www.oriondevelopments.com/product01.html" target="_blank">aussie site</a> among others.
