Question I'm having trouble removing the cruise control brain.

Do I just need to pull harder or is there a trick to getting it out?

I reviewed the manual and it seems it should just slide out after one bolt is removed.

Cool

There are two bolts! Take the other side cover off... Even then, sometimes it is tough to pull out because of the cable.

Actually, in the '85/86 car there is only one mounting bolt....it is on the passenger side. The left-side tab fits into a slot on the driver's side of the mounting tray, and there is no bolt there even though there is a hole in the tab.

Undo that one 7mm head bolt and pull the unit straight to the right. When the left-side tab disengages the slot you can pivot the rear-most edge toward you as you pull the box clear. The plug is not locked and pulls straight off, with a little effort.

Brian is correct. One bolt.

Pull the passenger side panel, the parcel shelf can remain in place.

There's a bit of a trick to turn and maneuver the brain out. Disconnect the plug to the brain as soon as you can reach it and then turn the unit out. Don't catch any wires with the ears while pulling it out.
