Does anyone know how to remove the mirror on the passenger side along with its cracked glass so I can replace it? I got a quote from International and its 30 bucks for the part..anyone know how to get the glass and motor part off including the black rubber trim around the mirror part????

I also need to know how to tighten it so it doesn't fall off again.. <img src="graemlins/cussing.gif" border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" />

O.K. I might know this answer (part of it). On my 1982 928 I can loosen the mirror by twisting the mirror housing to the front and getting to the allen bolt as you look down (I can fold my mirrors both ways and not hurt them). I do not remember the exact size of the bolt. I had to loosen mine to adjust it before the paint job. I did not remove it, but this must be the first step. Got it back on! Now the only thing next I need to do is put the glass/mirror back on when it comes in from 928 International. Hopefully since I live about 150 miles away from it, the shipment will come in tomorrow. If anyone has any tips for the glass and that ring let him or her speak now or forever hold his/her peace

The back of the glass has 3 prongs that engage in plastic sockets on the base (that is held on the body be 3 screws)as well as contacts for the heater. The picture in the book of prying glass off with a putty knife is about right - if your glass is broken you should be able to see how they work. Just make sure you dont try to pry the prong off the glass, instead of the prong out of its socket in the base. Push the inner end of glass inwards (into mirror shroud), slide flat blade/knife behind glass, twist GENTLY until you feel the prong starting to ease out, and glass separate. Once one is started the others should come also.
