Default Tranny Work...What else to look for?

Well its been awhile but since I've been gone at college I haven't had a whole lot of time to think about the ol' shark. Well the old girl needs a tranny replacement. Starting in second, the car will hold second until about 3,000rpm and then kicks into third. Thrid into fourth seems to be much more normal, sometimes holding third a little longer than it should. Occassionally it leaks from the front of the transmittion casing, but then for no reason i can explain it stops all together. The fluid level is between the min. and maximum level.

So I've decided its time for out with the old and in with the new. What else should I look into while I'm there? I already plan on new trans mounts but what should be considered?

that is pretty much it, unless you want to get really adventurous and replace the torque tube bearings at the same time.

Consider while you are in there to put an external oil cooler like Porken has installed on his car (do a search for part #s and pics.)

Thanks for the input. I think I'm gonna just stick with the mounts and tray but i plan to spend about $1500 on the shark so now comes the even harder task on what to buy with that cash. I'm thinking either a suspension upgrade of the S4 brakes???

yopu didnt say what the new trans will have done to it?
My suggestion is to replace all of the external O ring seals, also remove the front pump(behind the torque converter) and replace the large O ring that seals the pump to trans body,
put grease on the bronze bushing behind the new torque converter radial seal so the torque converter doesent seize on the bushing.
All of the seals and such can be purchased at a MB trans repair facility, also see if you can get Steve Catteno to give you any info about updated parts that your particular trans might need .
Time also to replace the torque converter front bearings there are 2 of them, also see if the rivets are loose on the rear flex plate, they get replaced with bolts/loctite, also as mentioned replace the TT bearings.

Looking at the list of "things to do" in your sig, I'd go with the exhaust first, then the brakes next The brakes should be adequate for a bit more power.

Thanks for the advice. I will be replacing the trans this summer (when I have the money) so I'll have to wait and see if anything else needs immediate attention.

I like the exhaust idea but i actually only need headers and new high flow cats. I think the suspension might be the best way to go bacause I wouldn't be suprized if the shocks and struts were original.
