Post Exhaust leak from Devek RMB

Hey guys Ihave an ongoing problem with my Devek RMB that has plagued it for a while. After installing the DEVEK RMB last year it has had an exhaust leak lately. Previously I used a paste kind of sealant that stopped the exhaust leak temporarily at the clamp but it has come back again. The Devek RMB is 1/4" small in diameter than the stock exhaust. What can I do about the leak? is there some sort of tape that i can wrap around the lips of the RMB and the catback, then clamp over it with the factory clamp? I'm ready to get the 928 International RMB, it appears to be a better fit and I'm told it's the same size piping as the factory (21/4") Anyone have one from International? Experiences with it????

FWIW, I bought mine from 928 specialists. The fit is perfect.

Might be a silly question, but do you have the steel donut in between the RMB and exhaust pipe with the clamp over everything??

Not silly John, good question!

ES944, if you do indeed have a leak between the pipe and the donut, what side of the donut (under the clamp) is it leaking?

Pull the RMB off (if not already), place the donut on the flared end and check to see if they mate together without any air gaps.

Without seeing how they fit (pipe end and donut) its kind of hard to suggest what to do about it.

Mine looks like it came from one of the other big 3 (PO installed) and I had to give it an attitude adjustment once right after I bought the car (you couldn’t hear it, but you could see the carbon traces). I just took it off and clamped it into my vise, placed the donuts on the ends of the RMB flange (one @ a time) and then using a block of hard wood over the donut (so not to damage the donut), I slammed it a few times with a sledgehammer until the end of the pipe and the donuts were a mating pair.

Other options are to take the donuts and RMB (removed from car) to your muffler shop and ask them for help or call DEVEK and see if they will exchange it.

Mine is from 928 sp. It does show some leakage with some carbon traces near the joints. My question is, how bad of a leak is it, that you have become concerned about it? Unless it is a HUGE leak, how can you tell? Why would you care?

there is a slight his where the joints are clamped. I will check the clamps again to see if they line up, i'm gonna pull them off one at a time this time so the damn thing doesn't drop on my head <img border="0" alt="[ouch]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" />
