Default 996 Wheels Four 10 x 18 ET 65

I just bought a set of 4 10 x 18 ET 65 996 replica wheels. I would like to run close to the same size tire front and back. What are my options.

a 10" wheel will accomodate up to a 295 wide tire no problem...which will fit on the rear easy with maybe a little fender rolling.....

The front might be a bit tight & require some fender rolling and maybe rack spacers...a 275 wide tire would fit easy.....

a 10x18 et 65mm has a 8.05 backspacing......which should work...it will stick out a bit...so your clearance issues would be 1.5" on both sides of the wheel (+1.5 inches on both the inside and outside or 38mm)

Many of the track 928 guys run a 18x9.5 rim with 8" backspacing which makes about a 70mm offset..so your only a touch wider than that

I think the 10 ET65 may be too wide for the front. I installed one on the front of my 79 and decided not to risk it damaging the fender but let us know if you get them to work I for one would love to get that much rim in the front.

I think the rear will require a small spacer to clear the inner fender well when the suspension is compressed

The control arms on the OB's are longer than an S4 so the wheels will be further in on a later car.

Or, run an OB lower control arm with an S4 upper to dial in some nice negative camber.

Keep us posted, I've been looking at running this same setup on my 79. Except I'll be swapping out my upper control arms for S4's for the camber change. That may help run the wider tire up front. Jim Page has this setup on his car and runs 305/30-18's on the front with no body modfications except for a rolled fender. Yes it's a track car.

i have 10x18 et 65mm on the front, i went with a 255 tyre but i think either 265 or 275 should be ok next time im replacing the rubber. i think blau928 has 275s on this rim on the front of his car.

I heard that someone is running some 10s up front with 295s on a track car. They report that it works well but it's on a 9" backspaced rim so that might not be helpful here.
Why run the same size front and rear? A 265 up front and 295 in back would be nice and in keeping with Porsche's tradition of different sizes.

"Hacker", 305s? Yikes! That's phat, what offset?

I tried my Porsche original Carrera light weight 18x10" rear wheel with ET65 on the front and the inside of the rim touched the brake caliper.
It can be done with a 3-5mm spacer but will push the wheel further out

Tassinari had a set of 10x18 et65 all around on a GT, he got some alignment specs that work and no rubbing. I think he had 285/30 all around. Rolled fenders on the GT.

I have a 265 tire with 68 offset and have no problems. I thought I would have reduced turning lock, but with the suspension weighted there is no sign of that. I think 3mm less would be close enough to go for it.

Fikse wheels - so he had them custom made, not 100% sure the offset.

drnick,
Is that on the 86, is that an 86.5 or an early 86?

All the '86 ROW were S4 suspension/brakes like '86.5 US.

I run a 17x9.5 with 60 mm of offset on all four corners of my 1980 Euro S. I have 225/40 x 17 tires on the front and have an occasional touch at full lock. My car sits lowere than stock by about 12 mm. If you are at stock height you should be ok with a 265 mm wide tire. You may want to put an extra rack stop on each side to prevent the inside edge of the rim rubbing against the control arm. I had to on mine.

Stan Shaw has 335 front and rear and John V can run the same... on track cars.

Blau928 has 285s, and I think has steering rack stops installed on his street car.
