Default CIS Troubleshooting

My 928 has been parked on stands for 3 years now!

I've run it a couple times a year since then, but she won't fire up anymore.

When it wouldn't fire I've done...
  • changed the plugs
  • drained the fuel and put some fresh stuff in
  • checked for spark (yes)
  • checked for fuel smell out the tail pipe (yes)
  • Checked the function of the cold start injector (no leaks)
  • inspected for major vacume leaks (none found)
  • removed the air box and observed the flapper under cranking (moves slightly)
  • pulled my hair out

The car does usually cough once or twice during the first 10 sec of cranking. No more on tries after that, unless I wait a long time. It's like it's flooding out before it gets a change to fire.

Anyone have some new ideas? I don't have a tool to properly check the control pressure.

Wow, my profile says I haven't logged in since 2006!

Thanks anyone!

where shall we start?

bad gas (you've fixed this before....?)
fuel pump not running (easy to check)
bad gas
clogged fuel filter (easy to change)
bad gas
screens under every hard line clogged (take them all out--I don't run any)
bad gas
injectors gone bad (have yours either cleaned or replace them)
bad gas
WUR not functioning properly (you know where this is going....)
bad gas
fuel distributor not functioning properly (dirty maybe, adjustments out of whack-probably not, as you said, it ran before...? running rich is one thing, but you can't get it to start?)
bad gas

and this is just on the fuel side of things

then there is the spark side of things

you know the answers, now just go thru the list of fixes.......

CIS doesn't like any kind of bad gas running thru it.

This all assumes a lot, like has your car just slipped a timing belt? or is the timing mysteriously off? have the rubber fuel lines deteriorated and collapsed?

Good Luck!!!!!!

Is it me or does it seem like the CIS cars are all having issues at once. There are lots of threads hitting th forum right now over these systems.

when your ready to go drive the car replace the old fuel install a new set of plugs and add a bottle of techron to the gas and drive the car , you could also add some marvel mystery oil to the gas this may help with the FI system. Car needs fresh plugs and to be driven .NOT just aroung the block

Replacing the gas in the tank doesn't get it out of the fuel lines, distributor, or the injector lines. Try jumping the fuel pump relay for about 30 seconds to replace the fuel in the lines, retard your ignition by about 5 degrees (to compensate for the lower octane gas) and replace your plugs as the old plugs are probably fouled by the concentrated additives in the old fuel.
