That's cool, but what is the other thing above it?

Ahhh, thats my "I hate the digital clock" prototype test platform. I found it at Brookstone. Pretty neat indoor outdoor thermo with a clock. I like the blue backround and will see if I can make it a permanent addition. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Isn't that a precarious spot to have your kickdown? Or is it just the LED to show that you are in that mode? If not, it may be hard to get to in a flash if you know what I mean. I thought about using the "dead" rear wiper switch since I do not have a rear wiper anymore, but I realized it 's not worth having a KD with a 3 spd.

BTW, I see you went with Jager's aluminum trim. This will be an addition to my interior when I redo. How do you like the parts? Easy install and fit?

I was trying not to drill into anything. My first thought was to drop it into the front of the cassette box but couldnt bring myself to drill...Im still assessing the install. Easy to do though. The Jager stuff is great and easy to install. If you havent done business with Paul...do. Quality stuff and Paul is super nice to deal with. As a community, we need to keep peppering him with ideas!!

I hid mine under the trim on the foot rest - just ease down on right foot, tap with left foot, down she goes!

Brendan,
J Pitman and Ed Ruiz seem to be on the same sheet of music for location - dead pedal -.
I on the other hand have looked at the front -tapered base- of the console. As I have a 3spd,
(928nt, slow beg to differ, the KDS is a hoot) and can wind things out quite a bit I have all kinds of time to remove my hand from the shifter and employ the KDS manually.
They make a small flat rocker that lights up in red, blue, or green. You can pick one up at any Auto parts store. I have a lighted 4 pole switch in both the rocker and a toggle - haven't installed either...yet.
Like you I don't like the idea of cutting thru the
leather for a switch, but the lower base does offer a spot that you won't hit the switch by accident -dead pedal-, that you don't have to worry about the carpet bunching up under the OEM position, or be concerned that due to age and slop if the OEM will engage at all.
Plus it's only 4 screws to pull the cosole for the installation and the wire run is an easy , hidden run behind the lower carpeted console panel to the floor switch for making the jumper.
I think Nicole posted on the replacement Jaeger shifter which has a 'TIP' switch would be my only other option.
Decisions, decisions...
Good luck.

John, I just find it easy to pull the shifter down to second is all. This gives the car a bit more pep for spirited driving.

Making sure the throttle cables are free and tight helps more than one would expect also. I bet there are a lot of 928's out there with a bit of slop in their cable. This easy adjustment makes a nice difference when it comes to KD time.

If you have not checked your throttle cables, do it. You will be amazed how slack they can become, and how easy they are to snug up.

Re cables - mine wouldnt kick down with the switch at all, until I tightened the cable. It didnt take much - maybe 1 1/2 turns of the nut, but now its nicely responsive normally, and goes down readily when asked, much nicer around town.

Took me a day to get used to after I did the adjustment. My girlfriend was asking me what the hurry was when driving and I told her that I adjusted the cable and I had to re learn the throttle response. I was used to using more foot than necessary. Kickdown is ready to launch with this adjustment....just the way it should be!

With a moderatley sounding exhaust (non stock), it certainly is a kick to pull to second on the boulevards from light to light. Exhaust grumbles when letting off the throttle and when she kicks down at cruise in second to first, the car jumps up and roars! Big smile factor!

Keith,
I'm usually tooling around in urban as well as suburban street environments in second as a rule of thumb. On the four lane city loop I do run from 2800 to 3400 rpm to keep on the the cam. Fuel cost's ...Hah! I laugh at fuel expenditures.
On two lane/other city streets I can't hold those revs up in 2nd due the speed limits, and first would be around...what 2800-3000 in the 45/50 mph range and with my pipes I'd be inviting the police and warning potential victims.
Since I've never tested the upper boundry on the KDS you might be right with respect to selecting a downshift to 2nd for your particular 'NEED'.
However, I know for a fact, if I am in 2nd, on the cam but not really pressing let alone WOT. When I tickle the KDS with good road speed and just about to the "What have we got here" portion of the cam I have a distinct advantage on someone who has neither the road speed, rpm's -yeah I know the down shift is going to give you a quick 1000rpm but I've already been there and gone.
If I do put the flat switch at the base of the console igniting the gas bomb is easy to do and then I simply raise my hand to the shifter for the shift to third.
Different strokes...
enjoy

Seems like a good place for the kickdown bypass switch would be on the shifter. An extra little button in a "tip like" shifter would be cool. Does it exist?

Momo, Luisi and others make a steering wheel with a center horn button and buttons on either side (I have one on order...)
I am going to wire the side button to the KD...will let y'all know how it works.
