It could also be the servo motor down by your right leg (assuming LHD). Mine did this - heater valve, head, solenoids and vacuum all checked out. The control motor was dead. I've seen a couple of these now.

Ian, that is a good point. In fact I am looking for the little arm that connects that servo to the flaps in the heater box. I haven't seen it, but I assume that it is a little plastic arm with an elbow in it. Anyone know what I am talking about or have one laying around?

FYI- I have a complete heater box assembly from my 80 track car.

 

The control motor(mechanism) was changed in mid 1983 and the later version is the one with more going on and electrical circuits inside. The change over was at the same time the control head went from the 05 to the 09 . The early control mechanism was 928 573 150 03 later is 928 624 129 00 as of vin # 92DS861952. Bob I am glad you are not freezing.

Just a quick update. I just replaced the control head. I was actually freezing/working in the (unheated)garage, I believe it is 1 degree (Fahrenheit) outside. So you might imagine that getting the fan working for the heat would be quite a treat, but alas, nothing!

Back to the drawing board.

 

Please hurry and solve this. I have had a similar issue since all the blue smoke escaped (I believe from the internal cabin temp sensor - at least from that area), and I am looking to your solution as a guide.

My symptoms: no aircon (because no refrigerant), no blower, no defrost, fuses and relays intact.
