Yep - lots of people looking... I'm actually surprised they go for as little as $40k.

That might be the reason why this one hasn't sold, yet:

I love the look of the Wimbledon Green in those pictures, but I'm thinking I wouldn't be quite so enthralled if looking at it in person. I'm not sure why.

THat one in the rennlist classifieds seems nice and priced right. If I had the cash I'd already be driving it.

I gotta be honest that I'd feel bad paying the rareness-premium on one of the GTS's and then putting lots of miles on it.

I went with an S4 on purpose - 90% of the performance of a GTS at half the cost (and guilt at using it as a driver as opposed to preserving it in a temperature controlled chamber).

And as more money became available, I'm uprating my humble S4 driver instead of swapping it for a GTS. In fact, I'm looking forward to having what looks like a rather ordinary late-80's 928 that's tons faster than it ought to be

That said, GTS's are are nice. Wish they were not so horribly rare.

PS is anyone gonna mention GTS oil consumption?

The 93 5 speed in the classifieds is VERY nice....the owner is a well known 928-PCA guy with a very good reputation.....a well known concours guy...so the GTS is spotless

I actually talked to him about this GTS last week....great guy.... like others have mentioned above I also would be driving this GTS if I got approval from the "Boss" (I didn't)....the price is very good & its also on the east coast!

They're out there. Just take more than a day to look. Call Michael Willhoit, he probably knows someone wanting to sell one or go to the 928 Registry or email Chuck Z. Cheap out on the entry price and it will cost you more in the long run. I see guys screaming all the time that you can pick up a GTS for under $30K. If you want an excellent condition GTS, not sure $40K will get you there. If someone is going to plunk down the cash on a GTS, don't waste your time unless you have $50K to play with. Why buy a GTS if it is not the gem it should be. Just go buy a pre 92 and save your money. Thats just the reality many care not to look at. I always expect it when someone mentions "GTS" that there are going to be negative comments about how they are a waste of money and have lots of issues. Whatever...

Best of luck to you!

The 93 in the classifieds was in a pretty big accident that the owner was not aware of.
Seemed to have been repaired correctly and repainted so maybe thats why the price is low.
Chuck here in DFW had a PPI done on it so you may want to talk to him about it.
He walked away from it.

Has anyone here had both GTS and/or S4/GT, and if so, how does the driving experience differ ? (Sorry, know it's a bit off topic, but just curious.. )

Cheers,
Erling

Erling, can't wait to see what comments we get to your post, bottom line is I may be able to pick up an extremely nice GT or S4 for a lot less money, and maybe that is what I should be considering. I like the silver, dark metallic cars best. Are these the most desired colors in 928's? I have a silver/ornage GT3RS. Most of the GT3 RS fans prefer the other color combos, but I love the silver/orange.

Keith who has a GTS and other 928s sums it up well. There is little difference in the driving experience or performance between a GTS and an S-4 and the warts are weak connecting rods in the early GTS plus excessive oil consumption is common. The S-4 gives you probably 99% of the GTS driving experience at half the cost with arguably a better engine. I have put a few hundred miles on a 93 GTS actually two of them both automatic and frankly the old very brown 1980 "the Turd" feels quicker and is far more fun to drive The GTS is for "collecting" the older cars are for DRIVING !! The beauty of any tool is using it to do what it was designed to do.

The car is beautiful. And it is nice to read all the compliments and assurances that "IF only, .... it would be in my garage." Those are words. Dollars buy and sell cars.

I hope he gets his price.

Only 77 1995 GTSs were imported to North America. A total of ~406 GTSs brought to NA for MYs 1993 through 1995.

I currently have 22 95 GTS 5-speeds with several cars where transmission type is not recorded/known. Probably 25-27 total for 1995 MY? If you apply the same logic over all MYs produced there would be ~130 GTSs with a 5-speed trans. Pretty rare car no matter how you slice it.....

I actually almost bought this car 8-10 years ago (with the same miles). Loved the interior color and the exterior color seperately but couldn't get past the fact that they DO NOT MATCH! They look hidious together. They are two totally different color greens.....

I have had 3 GTSs and none consumed oil. Mileage ranged from 12k to 55k. There are cars out there where the engine has been replaced by Porsche due to oil consumption though. There is one for sale right now.

Nicely said. It really depends on what you are looking for and your $ budget. The saying "you get what you pay for" really applies here. Throw all the valuation books/sites and especially the Porsche magazine self proclaimed "experts." Mileage/condition/history are king. There are only so many choices when it comes to a GTS (~130 to be exact). You can get a 93 GTS with AT for $21k right now on eBay and I have heard of mint condition 95 GTS 5-speed selling for more than 4 x that. I think one of the nicest available right now is this car: http://www.928registry.org/1994-928GTS-13.htm or you can see the sellers ad here: http://tableau5230.googlepages.com/

Good luck.
