Default Turn signals work (sort of) with no key

When I am get out of my car, sometimes I hit the turn signal lever on the way out and I find that my directional comes on and stays on solid. No flashing, no key in the ignition.

Car is an 84 5spd.

They all do (or should). I asked about this when I first got mine. It's a European thing. Something about when you park on a narrow road or something.

Many times I've gotten out and left it on only to find out much later on.

Mike is right. When you park on the side of the street (most small towns in Germany, lots of on street parking with not many streetlights), you light up your outer signal so others can see your car.

I was told that the Euro spec cars come with heavier duty batteries to handle the load.

this feature is on all of the 928's, not just the Euros.

and if you try the battery test IE leave the lever up or down with the key removed/off, the battery will eventually go dead.
This is a safety feature for night time visibility. If your leaving the car for a short period of time near a road, leave the road side light on to assist other drivers in seeing your car

There is a difference on Euro's but not to the switch gear... Euros have fewer marker lights (~12-15W/side) - only about half the draw of a USA model on S4+ models (~30W/side). Good job we don't really need to use it much because the battery would last only ~half as long.

There was a 928 "did you know?" thread with all kinds of information similar to this but I can't seem to locate it. Maybe some one with better search skill can help out. Happy new year!

I found this out on my 1967 912. I bought the car in 1969 and had it 3 days when I noticed one of the tail lights was 'burned out.' (Three days and something has already gone wrong!!! Little did I know what I would be in for as my "career" progressed!!I fooled with the key and the light switch to no avail. Finally got the manual out.

My 1989 944 S2 does this, and most of the German cars I work on as well.
