But, hey its a five speed...."5 SPEED MANUAL TRANNY IS GREAT, DOESN'T GRIND IN ANY GEAR." A tranny not grinding in any gear has gotta be worth something.

Well I've got every record on my car, been through them all and no note of replacing the odometer. It's a California car from new and the title was clean without note of an odo change, carfax was also perfect. Mileage also checks throughout the records to the present day, so I'd say mine is original and never had the gear replaced. And the trip odometer resets perfectly with one push, which is much better than my last 928.

Ok checked my 81 and it's got a 170 mph speedo. Does this mean that it's not original? Jason

I'm very interested in this car. Is there someone on the list near Denver who would be willing to take a look at it for me? I'll pay a fee --PM me please.

OK, so I talked with the guy and he's only owned it a few months. He claims to have bought it from the original owners son (who is about 55 yrs old), who apparently inherited it from his father. He noticed a leak in the water pump, so says he replaced the timing belt while he was at it. The car is in the shop now undergoing this repair.

He says he believes the car has the original mileage and has never been in an accident, but he thinks there is something fishy about the rear ps quarter panel --says it looks like it's been resprayed and faded in --this angle is not seen in the pics he sent.

He knows a lot about the car and has a good degree of mechanical knowledge. He owns his own compressor and re-painted the phone-dials himself.

I'm stoked about this car and want to fly to Denver tomorrow to pick it up and drive it home, but something seems fishy --mainly the 23k miles on the OD and the lack of some conspicuous angles. If someone doesn't buy it by the time I get my next check, I might go for it and cannibalize/track my other 928, but in the meantime, here are the high-res pics he sent me. Enjoy.

Those seats look like 23k miles. Very nice shape.

Judging by the interior and engine bay that could easily be a 23K mile car. When was the last time you saw the fender lip padding for the hood still intact.

Yes, I, too, think the 23k miles are believable. Even if the rear quarter has been resprayed - even if it needs to be replaced as a whole piece - the car would be a great deal for the price. I can't believe nobody jumped on it, yet!

By the way 3K, if you're really serious about buying a car, don't be talking it up on rennlist. I'm just saying.

From what I've learned from buying my 928 I don't buy anything sight unseen. Pictures never tell the whole truth. You can take pictures of what you want and avoid others that look bad(IE. PS panel). Looks awesome but look and drive before any deal. Jason

Maybe you want to take a peak at pictures of Frogie and other low mile early examples to compare items that should still be on a 23K mile example. The fender lip padding is an excellent example.

The car looks good to me but pictures don't always tell the whole story. Any particular reason he didn't send good quarter panel shots? Especially since he feels one has been repainted. Maybe you should ask for pictures of the area under the cargo carpet and spare tire/battery compartment to see if there is any visible body work. Discerning Rennlisters would probably be able to spot shoddy work quickly. If the car is still in the shop ask for some chassis shots…. The more photos that depict areas prone to dirt and wear the better, shots of the rack, wheel wells, and bottom of the engine can really show the condition. Digital photos are cheap.

Good Luck,
Paul

I agree that more pics are needed. I'm not going to go for it due to a few factors: 1. It'll take me a few weeks to pull together the $8+k, at which point I'd be surprised it wasn't gone. 2. It's in Denver. 3. I just bought an entire interior for my current shark on eBay. 4. If my wife wouldn't divorce me, I'd certainly be sleeping on Pascha for awhile.

So have at it. Good luck to whoever gets it!

Sorry to hear that. It might be a good deal. Personally I'd like a newer shark. I would rather put the 8k to a newer version. I can hear Roger yelling at me right now for saying it. Jason
