Wow; if only the 928's *** looked half as good as the Maserati's... I love those curves!

FWIW I came close to buying a 04 Maserati last year, drove both transmissions and went down the road with the local dealer. But I couldn't come to terms with the paddle shifter, and the only manual I found (really hard to find) shifted poorly. I got tired of looking and instead, I'm buying an X5 for the wife and bought an old 928 for myself. Go figure.

Wow, like some of the others, I never saw that coming. I can also attest to the great condition of Rob's GT! Rob, you'll be back, the Maserati is a great looking car, but it's not a 928. Your still welcome at any of the DFW GTG's, even in an Italian 928 wanna be.

There were lots of complaints about the 02 and 03 model trannies, mostly about abrupt shifts and clutch life. The software was revised in 2004 and this is the first complaint I have heard about this box.
Like the first time you learned how to drive a stick shift, the paddle operated manual tranny takes practice to get smooth. I issue I have had so far in driving paddle cars, or even a Porsche Tiptronic, is that I forget what gear I am in. Without the connection of my right had engaging a shift pattern and providing that feedback, I forget where I am and need to look down at the display. I have no doubt that will change in time after I live with the car and do more than just test drive.
I also found it very interesting about Maser going to a full automatic. On the Maserati forum the folks there saw the change as being very similar as to why manual Porsche 928s are so rare in later years. (Yes, they actually reference 928!) The audience (target market) had spoken and they prefer an auto for a GT cruiser. I'm more of a manual sift guy myself so I love the idea of control on the open road and the paddles saving my left leg in slower driving.

I am a new member that is coming out from tucson sat. to look at rob's GT. I may not have time for a ppi. Am I out of my mind ;or is this car that good. Rob suggested I ask some of you who have seen or been under the car to comment if you would please. Jerry

It's a good car, Rob is a legit car nut, and as you'll see, values his collection.

I personnaly went over to Rob's palace (read garage) yesterday and checked the car out very carefully as I have a passing interest in it 8>).
Car is a 9.75 out of 10. I did a complete check with the hammer and no known faults were found after driving it for about 20 miles. Everything works, ice cold air and all the important little pieces check out 100%.
Needs a new gearbox - but don't all the 5 speeds - just kidding.
If anyone would like to talk to me about the car email me at Roger@928sRus.com
Rob is a 110% guy and so is the car.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?
