Lefty loosey..righty tighty???

Wow..that must have been the original sender on there. So I am gathering that it's all gone except for the sender nut (top part) and the aluminum part that threads into the block? ..If so, the PO may have loctited it in there. I can't see that applying heat to the aluminum part up near the block would hurt much. Probably the only way to release it if it was loctited in there. Then you can get it in a vise and separate the two units.

When you put it all back together just use some yamabond (or hondabond) on the threads to keep it from leaking. That will ensure it will come out down the road.

Good luck..and it really shouldn't take an impact wrench to get it off after you heat it.save that for a last resort. BTW..both are threaded normally...if you loosen the sender..it should loosen the aluminum bypass on the block too..

Later,
Tom

Alright I`ll take your advise and try some heat, I`ll also be sure to have my fire extenquiser with me close by. I`m done for the day, grunting on that most of the day was a good workout. I`ll sleep like a rock tonite. Thanks to all for the help. toofer

Yes it sounds like Loctite was used to secure this sender, if your going to be using a torch make sure that there is no open fuel lines and that you have a hose and a fire extinguisher handy as well as a few wet rags sitting on the floor, better to have a wet rag and not need it then visa versa.

The penetrating fluid of choice is either PB blaster or Aero Kroil.........( WD 40 is a water dispersant made from fish oil)
To do this try heating the sender nut and then spraying PB on it let it cool a bit then use more heat then more PB do this a few times and the penetrant will begin soaking into the treads, let it sit for a few minutes, then heat it again and use your tools to remove the sender nut.

Make extra sure that you have the car safely supported ramps would be good under the front wheels incase it might decide to fall off of the jack stands

Today is a very good day. Heat did the job. After appling heat for about 30sec. I put the socket on it and it didn`t even make me grunt, turned like it should have to begin with. Old one is goone new one installed, filter and plug installed and oil added. After the battle I had just had I was very pleased to see the guage working as it should. Success at last. thanks for the help guys. toofer

Congrats...always nice when things finally work out. The pains of what happened will slowly fade as the miles increase

Sweet.......I really don't know why the PO would have loctited it......it doesn't need it.......yet another example of a ham fisted PO..... :>(
