Erling, that is a replica Porsche Club Sport wheel. The real Club Sport wheels don't have a metal badge, they have the logo impressed into the leather (which I think looks nice and more 'low key'). I have a black one on my S4, purchased from my local OPC for £240 including the 928 fitting boss.

The real Porsche ones don't have the lettering either.

Thanks Joel,

Bit puzzled though if it's a replica wheel. The fact that the leather on it perfectly matches the, eeehh - rather unique - leather color of the interior, would suggest a factory option to me.

Still, don't know the car's history and of course can't say if it's an aftermarket item made to match the interior or not. Doesn't change the fact that no other wheel I've tried so far has matched the 'feeling' of this one...

Cheers,
Erling

Erling,

Well the important thing is the look and feel. It looks great and if it feels good to you then that is all that matters. The presence of an aftermarket gear lever - also in perfectly matching amethyst - suggests to me that a previous owner has lavished some love on this 928, probably buying the steering wheel and gear lever at the same time.

I see you have the full leather centre console as well - such a cool option. Very few S4s in the UK have this.

Aahh, correction:

It's not my interior...

Was in a car I didn't buy; mainly because I couldn't live with the interior color.

Would still like to have the wheel, in black, in my own car.

Cheers,
Erling

Not sure the gear lever is aftermarket though - compare size/shape with this shot of my interior (Remember that GT lever is shorter than manual S4):

I think they look very similar, except for the amethyst car having the Porsche crest instead of gear layout on top, but that should be relatively easy to glue on I would guess.

Cheers,
Erling

Erling et al,
IF you like the 3 spoke wheels with thicker rims, AND an airbag And a center "push" for the horn, then the 993/996 twin turbo wheels WILL fit on the 928's with an airbag. Need a small bit of modification, but they look and feel great. Also, the result is a wheel slightly closer to the driver (~1", similar to the OE extended hub wheels on the 928's).
Cheers,

Paul: Everything looks good when you wrap your fine leather around it

I happen to prefer the 3 spoke design and the thicker rim on the updated wheel, but there's plenty of room for personal taste.

I can't give you the exact etymology of which models Porsche offered the "930S" wheel on - it's indeed often referred to as the Club Sport wheel. Since it's oem Porsche, it aint cheap. $441.96

It is available in a menu of colors - I like black, but you also have blue, burgundy, grey, colbalt blue and magenta. The purple-interior car looks like it has the same wheel, possibly that's the magenta, and with an added crest. It could also have been the normal 930S wheel but recovered along with the rest of the interior in some custom color.

My hands seem to grip this wheel a bit better, and they rest real nicely across the top of the 3-spoke setup. Since the wheel is one of the primary ways I interact with the car, I decided it was worth wasting a bit of money to get the one that feels "just right" for me. It certainly doesn't make the car any faster

Thank you for the kind comment.

If the new wheel makes your car feel "just right", it most probably puts a smile on your face every time you step in. And that my friend is money well spent

Erling,

Why didnt you buy that GT! I love that interior! Its off the wall but so different! What was the exterior color, a violet or something? I like the purple dash, cream seats and black carpet, very cool.

Thanks for the kind words Ryan.

More pics of the Amethyst car on p 15/16 of the 'Post your A$$' thread, along with some of my reasons not to buy it:

https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...337018&page=15
https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...337018&page=16

One factor was the economical aspects:

Price of car without tax: $21.800

Initial, 2-year old tax assessment: $34.900 (seller assumed you could deduct $1.800 per year, so let's be optimistic and set it at $31.300

Estimate of new leather cabin: $7.300 (and that's without luggage cover etc.)

(My) estimate of having the corrossion in door and quarterpanel fixed and painted: $1800

That brings us a total of $62.200. This is getting near GTS territory and really too expensive for this car.

For comparison, my own car has cost $56.700 incl. provisional tax - somewhat cheaper, albeit with double the mileage, IF you believe the low mileage of the Amethyst car. Have yet to find any rust in my own car, which I'm considerably more at ease with, than having to start battling some already from the beginning.

Cheers,
Erling

the all amethyst is a bit much. I like that that car had contrast. I doubt the original carpet was black, but i like the 3 colors together.

But yes if you suspect something with a car, then just walk away. You clearly got a very nice car by passing on the one.

You are correct - seller claimed to have replaced much of the original amethyst carpet with black instead, to tone down the 'impact' of the interior.

Seats were mousegrey btw, they are slightly overexposed on the photos and thus appear lighter in color. Happy though that I got a car with sports seats instead, as they are incredibly snug for me to be in.

Cheers,
Erling
