Default Question about workshop manuals

Got a set of workshop manuals for X-Mas. Thanks Dad and Mom. My set is in the red colored binders while the set my Dad has is in black binders. Any difference here beside the binder color?

Mine are grey. I am not sure how to compare the internals as I only have access to the one set.

I've got a red set (four binders, printed in 1981) and a new gray set (nine binders). I wouldn't be concerned about the color, but instead that your year car is included in your set.

regardless, i would supplement them with the Jim Moorhouse CD's. The hard copy is nice but I like the idea of opening up a PDF and printing what you need. Then you arent concerned when you get under the car and have the page and your hands are covered in grease. You just throw the thing away and when you need a new one print them up.

If you are just browsing, i think the hardcopy is better though. So have both.

I believe the grey binders are the later printings. The FWSM in red binders were earlier and won't cover all model years. If you're model year is covered in the wiring diagrams, then you're ok although Porsche did update some of the 'earlier' pages as they went along....most likely not a big deal and if you're uncertain you can check your Dad's set.

They were updating the earlier data as late as 1991. Case in point is adjusting the clutch preload. I suspect there are other changes but haven't seen them documented. If you have the 9 volume set it should include all of the changes and additions. Using the 4 or 8 volume set may be a hit or miss proposition unless it has the updates through 91.

Hello, Jim! I have a red set, 9 Volumes, all years. Vol VIII reads, 'Electrics, Wiring Diagrams 94 Models onward.'

Hey JP, long time. I stand corrected...maybe a faithfully updated red covered version?

John, I think I have all the material for the WS update...need to review some more. It turned out that the loss of important files was pretty minimal as near as I can figure. The cost of doing the recovery and percent of files likely to be recovered didn't justify the $$ ....I now backup regularly

Just checked the print # XX, printed in 88'. The electrical diagrams go through 93'. I'm covered.

Hi Jim,
Good that you haven't lost too much data. It is a hard way to learn the "back up !) lesson. BTDT.....

Let me know if you want me to send you any of the Euro data again.

Jim:

can you also provide me information about ordering your CD's. I have the WSM but I understand your materials are required reading for those of us working our way through a 928 from nose to tail.
