I was sold on the V1 back when we were coming back from a Spokane Track Attack, ATB was in the lead and he was on the radio squawking about a hit and checking to see if anyone else had a hit. There was one other detector in the group (some sort of Escort or whatever latest whiz bang) and he said there was nothing.... ATB decided on the side of caution and brought our normally fast paced run..to within the legal limit. 3 miles up the road...WSP in the middle of the road.

On our many trips down to Sharktoberfest, our V-1's continue to amaze me with their range. Even when we are doing the speed limit....the detector goes off..we look around...nothing...and then miles later... bang...there they are...

Sure technology continues to improve with GPS etc..but so far the "detection" abilities of the V1 are the best out there. Does the V1 needs an update, sure..... but for now...I'm sticking with it.

And the story that H2 is talking about (928's pulled over) was likely our Heckowee tour a number of years back. Hwy 14 near White Salmon on the way to Louie Ott's place. He was coming the other direction behind 3 cars...were were in a group of 9 (with one dangler).....we slowed to the speed limit and when he passed us...we thought we were good to go....but at some point he turned around and came back...lights a blazing. He proceeded to pass us and we thought we were good to go since he went further up the road. But..he literally parks across the Hwy...and motions every one of us to pull over (I could swear he had his hand on his gun)... We pull over and he proceeds to go to every car..saying he got all of us individually at "X" above the speed limit. We all knew this was BS since ATB was in the lead and knew to slow down. We can only guess that he tagged one guy in the back trying to catch up with the group and then used that for all of us. We all contested the tickets..and when that small court house realized their gig was up...they decided to offer us "deferrals". The 928'er all got off....and that one lone dangler..(some Ford Contour)..probably got screwed. Good times...

and the requisite pic:

Default Is your 928 in this photo?

However it had taken them about 15 minutes to catch up after we blew past them as they were chatting off the side of the road. We knew they were coming because we had radar detectors (V1's) and 2 way radios - it was pretty much a battle of the technologies - I'd say it ended up a draw.

I think this was a different event. This happened in the Colombia River Gorge in Oregon and all got tickets. There was quite a debate going on as to how best to deal with the tickets and various approaches were taken. Luckily, it was a rural area in need of money so the fines were kinda/sorta/almost tolerable. I'd heard that some paid fines and others got out of them. At least, no one went to jail

Your event is just another proof that 928s are a popular target.

So lots of stories out there - seems they would have been worse without protection! \

Got to dig out that photo again...

I recall that one of our number was a police officer - that did seem to help a little... so maybe find an owner who's a policeman and take them along with you too...

That's me 2nd in line (behind ATB).... and the poor Ford Contour at the back....next time I'm sure he'll think twice about tagging onto a group of Porsches LOL...

Alan...it also helps that one of our own is a lawyer

OK so lets see every trip should have a policeman, a lawyer, a mechanic (of course), what else...? (doctor? nurse? clairvoyant?)

Here's half our group - the other police car had the other half just in front of this. Rick's picture...

It's funny that we are talking about the times we've been pulled over..on a radar detector thread... I guess the take home message is that ...no matter what detector you are running... Cops will pull you over and will ticket you ...even though you were not speeding. Fight every ticket...every time.

One other message.....if you are in a group of "drivers" and the cop blows past you to get the lead driver. Immediately turn around or get off the road. Couple of years ago, 4 of us were headed down to Louies Shoot and Shine Oregon Road trip...and we are heading south into Vancouver WA... pretty much at the speed limit there due to traffic..and low and behold, WSP comes in behind us and motions for us to pull over. Shane and I comply....he passes by...yells something over his speaker...and moves on to grab John and Mark. Shane and I immediately exit the hwy to check out his car (blown head gasket). Five minutes later, John calls and asks where we were LOL.. I said..I'm not saying haha... He then said..the cop told us to follow him and the he just wanted to talk to us. We agree to go to their stopping spot....some 18year old trooper give us a "talking to"...and we are let go. We could have easily ignored them and gone on..

Similar happened to some Pac NW 928'ers coming back from a trip up Mt. Rainier.. Trooper coming the other direction whips around to pull over 3 928's......two pull over....one...being part of the original heckowee 8..realizes..and immediately turns around...goes back up the mountain..has a nice long dinner etc....and then comes down the hill....and he didn't get a ticket..while the other two did...(they also said they didn't know who the other driver was).... Never admit you are with a "group"....at worst say...you were surprised to see so many similar cars and wanted a closer look LOL.....

Doesn't take police and radar to get pulled over...

Several years ago the local PCA was on a scenic drive. Came up to an intersection with another hwy and the entire group was ticketed. No Speeding was involved. Seems a group of boy scouts was in the area and called in a complaint that a bunch of porsches were speeding through the area. Every car in the group was given a ticket because some boy scouts claimed the group was speeding.

One of the club members is a lawyer, took everyone's tickets, and contested them. Turns out the boy scouts only heard the cars going by their camping area and didn't even see the cars. So, no one actually saw anything. Each person receiving a ticket had to donate $10 to the boy scout group that had complained.

The new Escort Live social radar networking thingy looks pretty cool!

However..... My V1 went nuts one day....forward arrow all lit up and the number 1 showing only one source of radar! I passed a State Trooper along the side of the road........arrow still facing forward.......about 1/4 down the road I passed a long hedge row and the arrow switched to facing backward.......looked long and hard in the rear view mirror before I could see the 2nd trooper hiding in the bushes.

.....any other detector and you would likely just assume that the first cop you passed was the threat! Go arrows!!

Any 9500 series can track up to eight (IIRC) different returns at the same time, so that is not correct, I have seen it happen often when two police cars are running front and rear radar you get four different tracks on the display.

You misread the post. It had nothing to do with tracking the number of units. I had to do with knowing which direction the signal was coming from.

Ok, but I can tell the same thing by the sound of the ramp up or looking at the display.
All that really matters is there is a additional threat, not where it is coming from.

You can't tell if a signal is in front or behind you by the display or the sound of the ramp up unless you have a V1. You are still missing the point. There was instant, full signal strength (cop turns on radar when you are close) and then when in between the two cop cars cars!! With your set up most would assume that the single signal at that strength was coming from the car they passed, not the one they can't see yet down the road. There is no more "ramp up" there is only 1 signal. Now it's all about direction.

Not saying you don't have a good detector, and you can use the Escort live with yours, which will ultimately be a great set up. Just saying that there is still a great use for the arrows. I've run other detectors but there is sooooooo much information to be had from the direction of the signal.

+928 to BOTH of these thoughts.

For the first - put 'em to their proof. In my experience cops are no-shows slightly more often than not. That's a dismissal.

For the second thought, ++++ ANOTHER 928.

"I'm part of a group" can be easily twisted by an over-zealous cop or prosecutor and is dangerously close to "We were racing."
